As the Creative Services team leader, content strategist and talented copywriter, the manager leads the effort to communicate and brings to life the United Way of King County value proposition across all marketing platforms and materials. This position writes copy, manages consistent and strategic content for website, electronic communications, printed collateral, and advertising. Key driver in content planning for electronic and printed newsletters. Works closely with Marketing Director (who this position reports to) and the Communications Director to execute materials in a compelling way. This position has 3 direct reports: 2 Graphics Designers and the Traffic Coordinator, and also manages freelance copywriters, graphic designers and agency(ies) doing client-facing creative.
- Works closely with Communications Director on annual communications themes and content planning.
- Key player in weekly Editorial Meetings, maintains familiarity with organizational positions and communication objectives.
- Manages electronic newsletters.
- Leads the creative team to develop and present creative concepts that support organizational objectives/projects.
- Edits, proofs, and revises marketing material.
- Ensures the accuracy and completeness of all communications material for public distribution.
- Manages style guide, consults and advises staff on writing and editorial issue.
- Manages relationships with freelance photographers and oversees coordination of Photo Library
- Evaluates editorial content to ensure that United Way’s diversity and organizational priorities are represented in the appropriate context.
- Manages budget for freelance copy, design and client-facing creative.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Advanced creative, technical, marketing, journalistic, and advertising writing skills.
- Excellent oral communication, interviewing and grammar skills.
- Intermediate knowledge of collateral and online production process.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, implement, monitor, and control project work assignments.
- Strong organizational, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
- Demonstrated ability using discretion and independent judgement.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Intermediate Microsoft Office skills.
- At least 5 years’ copywriting, marketing or creative services experience including 3 years’ supervisory/management experience.
