The Associate Director is responsible for is responsible for the comprehensive development of individual giving at United Way of King County. This includes planning, strategy integration between Individual Giving and Major Giving Teams, and experimenting with and developing new channels and new audiences towards the goal of donor count, retention, and growth. The position actively participates as part of the Development Leadership Team and is an important cross-departmental team communicator and collaborator with other areas of the organization.
- Develops a new Leadership Giving Program, in collaboration with United Way’s Brand & Marketing Department and Community Services Team, to increase and upgrade donors and gifts at the $1,000 - $9,999 giving levels.
- Executes on strong individual giving strategies for donors giving up to $9,999 in collaboration with other United Way teams and builds strong relationships with individuals.
- Contributes to setting annual fundraising goals and subsequently meets or exceeds goals related to annual direct mail, individual giving levels, and online fundraising as outlined in fundraising work plan for donors who give up to $9,999.
- Jointly outlines and develops communication strategies with other departments as they relate to strategies with donors in the $1 - $9,999 categories of giving.
- Employs creative cultivation and stewardship tactics that are systematically implemented year-round and appear personalized and inclusive of meaningful recognition strategies.
- Analyzes, implements and monitors targeted fundraising approaches, such as the Emerging Leaders/365 Program and forthcoming Leadership Giving Program efforts.
- Provides guidance and development opportunities to help colleagues develop and maintain engaged relationships with high-level volunteers, while playing a leadership role in volunteer recruitment and training (i.e., Fundraising Cabinet members and other Fundraising volunteers).
- Holds primary responsibility for a portfolio of donors and organizations that support United Way. Fulfills outreach, stewardship, and solicitation strategies for increased growth and greater retention.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Demonstrated fundraising and relationship building skills/techniques.
- Demonstrated track record of raising significant revenue.
- Demonstrated change management skills and ability to support staff assuming new skills and strategies as the funding environment shifts.
- Proven supervisory experience, including ability to coach employees in a rigorous environment of high expectations.
- Excellent presentation, verbal and written communication skills. Written reports effectively communicate with a broad audience at various levels and backgrounds.
- Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems through effective interpersonal and analytical skills.
- Proven ability to set goals and objectives, develop strategies/work plans and achieve personal and team goals.
- Demonstrated ability to persuade others and to close sales/fundraising opportunities; flexible attitude and comfort with some ambiguity.
- At least five years' successful experience working with individual donors in innovative, sustainable ways, as well as a successful track record of managing and developing fundraising professionals, including 3 years’ supervisory/leadership experience, donor solicitation and fundraising techniques with an emphasis on annual fund background.
- Experience analyzing data, creating appealing programs, breaking new ground and attracting support from stakeholders; highly desired.
The annual recruitment range is $82,500 TO $90,500, depending on successful experience and prior accomplishments demonstrated.
