Vice President of Programs

The Vice President of Programs is responsible for the overall supervision of all Easterseals Washington programs and services, the strategic expansion and adjustment of these services, and the integration of programs with the other executive functions of the organization.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Mission Adherence & Development:

  • Frequently evaluates programs for mission alignment and fiscal sustainability
  • Networks with a broad audience to stay abreast of opportunities for collaboration and growth
  • Identifies ways to replicate existing programs in targeted geographic areas
  • Increases the number of people served annually
  • Increases the number of children with special needs served by our CDCs
  • Advances the autism focus throughout our organization
  • Works to make all programs, especially camp programs, more inclusive 
  • Develops professional level marketing materials and methods for each program, and liaisons with the Development/Marketing Department to ensure aligned message delivery

Leadership & Human Resource Management:

  • Actively participates in ESW strategic planning processes
  • Develops a vision for ESW services & facilitates its attainment
  • Takes full responsibility for service delivery, including providing program management and direct service on a temporary basis, when needed
  • Serves as spokesperson and authority on all ESW services
  • Member of the ESW Executive Leadership Team (ELT)
  • May attend ESW Board of Directors meetings 
  • Works as liaison between programs and the Development/Marketing and  Administration Departments
  • Works in concert with all departments & maintains a big picture perspective
  • Supervises all program directors, holding them accountable for all administrative, fiscal, and service delivery requirements
  • Recruits & retains the best possible program directors
  • Trains, coaches, evaluates, develops and progressively disciplines directors
  • Handles voluntary and involuntary terminations of program leaders
  • Approves timesheets, expense reports, mileage reports, and other documents
  • Works with HR to recruit program staff and increase the usage and management of volunteers
  • Works with HR to analyze & revise compensation structures and job descriptions for program staff

Financial Management:

  • Always strives to increase revenue generated by programs to ensure sustainability and growth 
  • Controls program related expenses
  • Develops budgets
  • Analyzes budget variance reports; forecasts and carries out needed adjustments to meet fiscal goals 
  • Trains directors on fiscal responsibility & holds them accountable 
  • Develops funds through grant research & attainment, working in concert with the Philanthropy Department
  • Assures that programs carry out activities required by grant agreements and agency contracts; completes reports to funders in concert with Development Department 
  • Actively promotes the organization and ensures adequate program staff participation in fundraising events (as instructed by Development Team) 

Quality Assurance/Risk Management/Reporting:

  • Works with COO to ensure the highest quality of service delivery possible by identifying and evaluating quality indicators on a regular basis
  • Reports demographics of individuals served as required 
  • Handles emergency situations, potential crises, and media situations with guidance from COO & CEO
  • Develops and revises program policies & procedures
  • Enforces policies & procedures and explains the values behind them
  • Reviews & approves proposals for service delivery changes from program staff
  • Completes appropriate internal & external reports
  • Participates in audits by internal and external entities 
  • Reviews contracts for COO review and CEO signature
Educational Background: 
Minimum of Bachelor level degree in business or related field
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum five years of experience in business management, with non-profit program leadership preferred
  • Complete understanding of the non-profit sector and customer service best practices
  • Well versed in leadership and human resource management strategies
  • Professional demeanor and ability to present information to groups
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral, including active listening)
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Advanced level computer skills, especially in MS Office applications
  • Flexible schedule of availability
  • Washington State Drivers License, availability of personal automobile, proof of adequate level of auto insurance coverage
  • Must pass Washington State criminal background check (and FBI fingerprint check if a Washington resident for less than three (3) years)
  • Must have proof of U.S. citizenship or right to work
  • Ability to work independently
