Responsible for managing the Easterseals Washington comprehensive development program including: major gifts from individuals and foundations; annual giving from all sources; planned giving and bequest programs; research and data entry; gift processing and acknowledgments; stewardship and communications; and events management. 

This position is responsible for identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding assigned prospects capable of giving $25,000 and more over time and for cultivating and soliciting assigned prospects capable of giving $1,000 to $25,000 annually for a total of 50 to 100 assigned prospects.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Through connections and networking, the Development Manager is responsible for driving interest in our purpose, increasing donor relations and funding to support the clients and families we serve. Through excellent consultative sales skills, budget management, personal drive and accountability, the Development Manager builds a local donor base and manages current relationships, and builds a portfolio of prospects. The position is responsible for leading local event fundraising efforts, as well as helping to secure corporate sponsorships for events. The Development Manager will be responsible for developing short and long-term financial development goals, working closely with the Board of Directors.  The Development Manager will be accountable for meeting annual development revenue goals.

Management

  • Communicate Easterseals’ vision, mission, and values to our current and potential stakeholders.
  • Develop and implement a written comprehensive plan for the development department.
  • Provide a vision for comprehensive philanthropy 
  • Set overarching and philanthropy category goals
  • Oversee, monitor and report progress against goals
  • Ensure effective and efficient data management; keeping all donor data current
  • Responsible for creation, maintenance, and timely dissemination of reports to supervisor and a variety of stakeholders.
  • Set and meet agreed upon dollar goals for all aspects of comprehensive philanthropy.
  • Set and meet agreed upon non-dollar goals for each of the comprehensive philanthropy categories.

Individual Contributor

  • Personally build and manage a portfolio of prospects
  • Develop and implement written strategies based on capacity and readiness to give
  • Make regular visits to major gift prospective donors; minimum number of visits to be determined with creation of the Development Plan
  • Be responsible for how assigned prospects will be solicited for their annual fund gift
  • Write useful individual reports after each visit or contact
  • Manage Board of Directors giving and training
  • Manage community annual online giving initiatives, Easterseals Washington online giving campaigns, annual campaigns, employee giving, and targeted fundraising efforts & events.
  • Build a cadre of major gift volunteers over time 
  • Support the CEO’s major gift work with top prospects
  • Manage Planned Giving & Bequests
Educational Background: 
Bachelor‘s Degree in related field
Skills/Experience: 
  • An articulated belief in the purpose of Easterseals Washington
  • Full alignment with the Easterseals Washington Values and Code of Ethics
  • Demonstrated constituent relationship management experience in the following areas: Individual and Major Gift Solicitations, Planned Giving, Foundation Giving, and Special Events.
  • Prior experience with fundraising and constituent database management
  • A proven track record as a major gift officer and experience in a management role  of a non-profit organization
  • Four+ years of progressive experience in development/fundraising/sales, with budget accountability
  • Highly developed organizational and prioritizing skills
  • Excellent communication skills emphasizing the ability to communicate with a variety of audiences and the ability to produce exceptional written documents
  • Must be willing and able to work effectively under frequent deadlines, handle multiple projects and tasks with minimal supervision, work as part of a team, and demonstrate flexibility in accepting and carrying out assignments
  • Intermediate to advanced computer operating skills including word processing, database, web-based applications, and graphics
  • Flexible schedule of availability
  • Washington State Drivers License, availability of personal automobile, proof of adequate level of auto insurance coverage
  • Must pass Washington State criminal background check (and FBI fingerprint check if a Washington resident for less than three years)
  • Must have proof of U.S. citizenship or right to work
