United Way Suncoast is currently seeking a talented professional to serve as the Director of Major Gifts and Planned Giving. This position will play a vital role in ensuring United Way Suncoast continues to serve as the leader in the non-profit community for generations. The Director is an experienced fundraiser or community leader focused on mission and values and shares our vision for ensuring a better future for all children, families and adults living in the five counties of United Way Suncoast.
The Director is responsible for creating and implementing strategies and building relationships that advance United Way’s community building mission. Working independently and in conjunction with board members, staff and volunteers, the director will steward Tocqueville donors and prospective donors.
- Develops, cultivates and maintains major gift donor relationships within the assigned portfolio of Tocqueville members
- Creates a donor cultivation strategy for all prospects and donors in assigned portfolio
- Implements annual and long-range plans for major giving target markets to increase giving and levels of participation
- Provides follow up and personal invitations to all donors in the portfolio for Tocqueville events, tours and volunteer events
- Works with staff to identify Tocqueville prospects through direct donor gifts or workplace campaigns
- Manages an individual portfolio of donors
Donor Cultivation, Education, and Stewardship
- Oversees development and maintenance of current and prospective major gift donors and planned giving activity in the portfolio
- Corresponds with major donors through personal contact and correspondence
- Implements and manages donor recognition for donors in the portfolio
- Captures significant donor relationship activities; creates and tracks solicitations and projections; and enters donor information in the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) System
- A minimum of 10 years professional work experience;
- Familiarity with financial planning is preferred;
- Advanced analytical skills to research and identify giving potential;
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication abilities;
- Proven ability to create a climate of confidence and trust with stakeholders;
- High-level of computer, CRM and technology proficiency; and a passion for United Way’s mission, vision and accomplishments.
Experience Required:
- Previous experience in a not-for-profit fundraising program or consulting firm with a proven track record of developing and securing major and planned gifts in the 5, 6, and 7 figure range. Familiar with all aspects of fund development. Local experience is a must.
- Budget management experience; the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment; the ability to set and achieve short and long-term goals; and to identify and access long-range giving potential. This role requires a high degree of personal responsibility and integrity.

- Ability to present information to and respond to questions from groups of diverse organizational employees, managers, and senior level high-profile decision makers.
Computer and Analytic Skills:
- Requires advanced knowledge of MS Office software and data base programs. Strong analytic and strategic planning skills required.
