As Director, Relationship Events, you join an incredible organization that executes the country’s most exclusive, entertaining and mission focused relationship events.

Utilizing your proven leadership, managerial, networking and relationship building skills to lead and cultivate key community connections, you will drive success and achieve revenue, attendance and mission-focused goals.  You will also strategically identify and engage community and corporate leaders while building and empowering sustainable volunteer committees to execute and grow the Alzheimer’s Association’s Northern California and Northern Nevada Chapter A Bright Night Gala.

This position is eligible for a $10,000 sign on bonus!

Areas of Responsibility: 

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for budgeted outcomes of the Gala Event resulting in $1 million+ revenue annually.
  • Responsible for high-level volunteer recruitment, training, coaching, and partnership to achieve revenue goal. Build high-level relationships within the executive and philanthropic community to cultivate and grow volunteer leadership for the gala.
  • Responsible for all aspects of the gala program - developing, managing and implementing the annual strategic plan and budget for a successful campaign.
  • Prospect, cultivate and steward gala sponsors and donors via volunteer networks to identify prospects, create proposals, fulfill benefits and steward sponsors and donors year-round.
  • Build and maintain year-round relationships with key volunteers, donors, sponsors and community leaders as well as existing and new corporate partners and donors.
  • Collaborate and manage Chapter resources proactively to maximize success by including leadership (relationship prospecting, cultivation and engagement, overall event planning and strategy, volunteer and donor management); major gift donor advisors, communications (PR, speakers, messages, materials and timing); and operations (revenue tracking, sponsor and donor collections, logistics support/fulfillment, etc.)
  • Oversee, manage and implement large scale event logistics and daily administration, including but not limited to: facilities, décor, catering, entertainment, supplies, attendee tracking and communications, etc. 
  • Manage vendors and any temporary position that support relationship events including, but not limited to venue, a/v, fundraising and event software (GiveSmart), seasonal support and any other support staff responsible for event execution, gift processing, and other administrative duties.
  • Responsible for accurate and timely reporting on the progress of the A Bright Night Gala to the Chapter Leadership Team and Board as well as the Alzheimer’s Association National Office
  • Ensure Alzheimer Association’s standards and best practices are being followed
  • Responsible for other duties as assigned by the Chief Development Officer
  • Actively participate in learning opportunities for professional growth and self- improvement
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
Skills/Experience: 

This role is right for you if:

  • You have demonstrated success at developing, growing and managing large-scale special events including working and cultivating relationships with sponsors, donors and high level volunteer leadership; ability to establish relationships and collaborate with sponsors, vendors, leadership and colleagues; and proven success in volunteer/committee recruitment, guidance and management.
  • You have successfully recruited, managed, and coached volunteers to effectively implement best and proven practices to achieve fundraising goals OR you are able to effectively assimilate our custom training on peer to peer fundraising and leverage your sales/relationship development background to recruit, manage and coach volunteers to implement best and proven practices to achieve fundraising goals.
  • You have managed or are capable of managing high-level relationship events that have resulted in revenue growth year over year.
  • You are known as a convener and have successfully built a positive, healthy, and inclusive team environment that has resulted in long term staff and community relationships.
  • You have demonstrated success at prospecting, cultivating and stewarding event sponsors and participants.
  • You love a challenge and have achieved or surpassed designated revenue and participant goals through individual fundraising, corporate solicitation, and community partnerships.
  • You have exceptional written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail, and are comfortable with building and managing event budgets, training staff and volunteers, and using data to affect positive outcomes.
  • You have superior project management skills, including demonstrated ability to manage complex projects with multiple and competing deadlines.
  • You have a strong work ethic and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

What you Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 5-7 years non-profit event management and fundraising/sales experience
  • Minimum of 3-5 years securing mid-level and major gifts
  • Demonstrated success in managing complex large-scale, high-end community events, preferably Gala-specific experience
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with others
  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to multitask
  • Confident, goal-oriented, positive self-starter, able to work independently with limited supervision, and collaboratively with internal and external partners.
  • A can-do attitude
  • Ability to co-manage relationships and manage up regularly with Leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and nurture corporate relationships and partnerships
  • Ability to manage large numbers of volunteers at different levels of expertise with diplomacy
  • Ability to engage and work with diverse communities and demonstrate inclusion, coupled with the ability to work in a highly matrixed organization
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication with attention to detail and follow through.
  • Proficiency in Google suite, Zoom, fundraising and database software (eg, GiveSmart), other online applications and/or willingness to learn new programs.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 30% within the assigned territory by car. Travel in this case, is considered time spent away from the office, in the community, to fulfill the job goals.  While most such travel is same day, occasional overnight travel or air travel may be required
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, access to a reliable vehicle, good driving record and proof of automobile insurance.
  • Ability and willingness to work some evenings and weekends as required for committee meetings and wraparound events
  • Ability to bend, stoop, lift and transport up to 25 lbs. of materials
Compensation/Benefits: 

Starting Salary range: $110,000  -  $120,000, plus amazing benefits: 401k contribution and amazing PTO!
