The Research Analyst is an excellent opportunity to contribute to meaningful and lasting change for youth, adults, and families in the Bay Area. We are seeking an individual with strong research and analytical skills who is excellent at presenting findings and recommendations in way that is easy for audiences to understand.  Knowledge of the local nonprofit and educational landscape and exceptional analytical skills is a plus. As a member of UWBA’s Equity team, this individual will support research and evaluation for UWBA’s youth workforce programming, SparkPoint Initiative, Two-Generation programming, and adult workforce and higher education programming. 

Successful candidates will have a background in data, research, and evaluation, as well as experience in both qualitative and quantitative analysis. Successful candidates will also be skilled at writing and presenting reports. 

This is a full-time, 37.5 hour per week support union position.  

Areas of Responsibility: 

Research

  • Conduct research on current poverty trends, research, and evaluations of new, proven and tested program models 
  • Review recent research/articles on successful poverty strategies and share learnings with team 
  • Conduct and summarize latest research on economic, workforce, youth workforce, education, and other poverty-reduction best/current practices, services, and programs (i.e. latest research on credit scores, career pathways, community schools)
  • Conduct research on the nonprofit and philanthropic fields (i.e. performance-based funding models, grant making strategies)
  • Attend forums and events that discuss latest research on poverty
  • Represent UWBA in coalitions and partnerships with community-based organizations, businesses, labor leaders, and elected and appointed officials

Content Development

  • Create briefs and write ups on local and national poverty trends/research to share with the team, organization, and UWBA leadership team.
  • Develop compelling content for needs and challenges in the Bay Area to share with potential funders 
  • Work cross-functionally with other departments to share and refine findings with external audiences
  • Write reports sharing evaluation findings

Program Evaluation & Analysis

  • Conduct analyses on program data
  • Conduct qualitative analysis and evaluation including interviews, focus groups, coding, and  visualizing results 
  • Conduct quantitative analysis and visualization including a strong background in excel. Use of other reporting tools and statistical methods preferred (Tableau, Einstein Analytics, Salesforce reporting, STATA, R) 
  • Support internal evaluation including analyzing current data sets, and providing recommendations in reports and presentations
  • Support external evaluations including working with consultants and pro-bono agencies to coordinate evaluation plan, assist in collecting data, and providing context to UWBA work.

Data Management

  • Support the management of program data for Equity Team programs 
  • Support migration efforts from old case management software to new case management software
  • Provide training and support to UWBA partners with use of database and applying recommendations. 
  • Create training materials for data and evaluation
  • Work closely with Program Analyst and Director, Data and Evaluation to support the Equity team in data, evaluation, and research efforts and goals.

Other Responsibilities 

  • Support grant reporting for Equity Team programs 
  • Support board book reporting with program updates 
  • Field inquiries from the Equity team and other departments for ad hoc research and statistics 
  • Other duties as assigned
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree preferred but not required.
Skills/Experience: 
  • 3-5 years of related professional experience in nonprofit programing, research, evaluation, or other related fields. 
  • Statistical and analytical research experience preferred
  • Excellent writing skills, with the ability to make complex concepts easy to understand, while keeping content relevant and compelling. 
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills.  
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively and diplomatically with nonprofit, community, labor professionals and leaders as well as corporate executives in all settings 
  • Self-motivated, detail oriented, and excellent proofreading skills  
  • Ability to work collaboratively and maintain positive work relationships with staff, volunteers and persons contacted in the course of work. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint), database and CRM software (Salesforce, Efforts to Outcomes, FairSale, Exponent Case Management), or other online resources and applications.
  • Experience in systems and case management software is a plus. 
  • Flexibility and mobility to travel to off-site locations within or outside San Francisco as needed.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $54,000.00 - 58,000.00 Salary Non-Exempt
