The President and Chief Executive Officer reports to the Board of Directors and provides strong, innovative collaborative leadership focused on maximizing the role of the United Way of Saginaw County (“UWSC”) in achieving community impact. Develops strategies for increasing financial resources linked to community priorities in health and human services. Creates and builds awareness of the UWSC’s role in the community and assures involvement of its diverse constituencies. Maintains accountability for the overall operational and fiscal integrity of the organization within the policies set by the Board of Directors.

Areas of Responsibility: 

The scope of this position is broad, requiring the President/CEO to establish and maintain significant relationships with persons at all levels within the public, private and voluntary sectors. These persons include corporate chief executives, local governmental leaders, labor representatives, leaders of other funding organizations, and representatives of other United Way organizations (both local and national), key planning organizations, and representatives of constituencies.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Implements the policies established by the Board of Directors through administration of the total organization and its activities.
  • Serves as the principal professional resource to the Board of Directors and key committees and assists the Board in matters of short- and long-range planning policy development, information gathering and interpretation, and assures implementation of Board decisions.
  • Cultivates relationships and develops community, state and national networks in an effort to further UWSC’s mission and achieve maximum community impact for UWSC resources.
  • Manage financial and business affairs, including the annual campaign, operating budgets, collections and disbursement and accounting of all funds, property, official records and reports.
  • Administrative responsibilities for programs which assist in determining social service needs and the kinds of services required to effectively meet these needs, including the best application of UWSC monies and agency services to assist in meeting these needs.
  • Maintains administrative responsibility for public information programs both year-round and at campaign time which interprets the work and program of UWSC and UWSC agencies.
  • Total authority and responsibility over personnel functions, including hiring, firing, and performs annual evaluations.
  • Serves as a member of the Board of Directors, Executive Committee and all other committees of the UWSC.
  • Assesses potential collaboration opportunities that will enhance organizational value and improve efficiency.
  • All other functions assigned by the Board.
Educational Background: 
A bachelor’s degree is required. Postgraduate studies are desired.
Skills/Experience: 
  • 7+ years of management experience, preferably in a non-profit organization
  • Experience building relationships and collaborative partnerships
  • Prior fundraising experience and a commitment to health and human services
