The CEO is a leader of the organization, establishing a vision for community impact that is achieved through the efforts of a diverse team of high-performing leaders, staff and volunteers alike. S/he leverages the power of relationships and networks, and works across private, public and corporate sectors to improve conditions in the community. S/he possesses a high level of broad business, administrative and management skills and is effective at generating resources and financial support toward achievement of the mission. The CEO is dedicated to shared and measurable goals for the common good.
Strategic Planning and Direction
- The CEO serves as the principal resource to the Board of Directors and its key committees and gives strong direction in policy formulation and interpretation. S/he partners with the Board of Directors to craft organizational goals and develop strategies to ensure they are achieved.
- S/he ensures coordination and alignment of all United Way activities to the strategic direction in the areas of community impact, resource development, grant making and staff alignment. S/he is responsible for strategizing and assuring UWGG is on firm strategic footing, with strategic plans for each major sector.
Communication and Outreach
- The CEO represents the mission, values and services to the community. S/he facilitates partnerships and joint programing to enhance community relationships. The CEO assures robust dialogue with the community (strategic communication programs, social media, publications, forums, events, opinion feedback, roundtables). S/he will establish and build relationships with top leaders in the community, including those representing the highest levels in business, government and non-profit sectors.
Organization Management
- The CEO is accountable for building and leading high-performing teams, ensuring all teams are aligned and collaborating to achieve organizational results. S/he maintains accountability for the operational and fiscal integrity of the organization within policies set by the Board of Directors.
- The CEO assesses organizational capacity to implement strategies and identify gaps in systems and staffing; hires and supervises staff and implements procedures to ensure good management and administrative practices; works with the Finance Committee to manage organizational spending, develops and monitors budget compliance and mitigates financial risks; ensures UWGGC goals of inclusiveness and diversity among staff and volunteers are met.
- The CEO is expected to exhibit a participatory style of management, be a good listener, an effective problem solver, follow through on all projects, promote the success of UWGGC programs, and effectively instill a sense of trust among all UWGGC constituents.
Community Leadership and Impact
- The CEO is responsible for the UWGGC overall impact on the community, with emphasis on increasing its capacity to drive the impact agenda. The CEO works closely with the Board of Directors to craft and adapt the strategy to achieve this increased impact, including raising the funds to support it and administering the Grant making process. S/he delivers measurable impact reports which provide for evaluation and communication of data, performance and outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to set clear priorities, to command the confidence and respect of stakeholders, delegate, and drive and monitor progress.
- Demonstrated experience in collaboratively developing strategic plans, goals, and systems to monitor and achieve impact.
- Strong analytical skills, judgement, negotiation and problem-solving skills that support and enable sound decision-making.
- Excellent relationship building skills with an ability to communicate and work effectively with a variety of internal and external audiences.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication and presentation skills with demonstrated success as an outgoing self-starting professional.
- Strong commitment to the professional development and mentoring of staff; successful track record of recruitment and retention of a dynamic staff.
- Demonstrate a high level of intelligence and intellectual curiosity and a desire to explore new ideas and innovative approaches to solving problems.

- Experience building revenue and increasing philanthropic support

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
- At least four years Senior level experience as CEO/Executive Director or Chief Operations Officer (COO)
- Prior nonprofit leadership success
- Significant Board development, communication/marketing, fiscal management, and program services results
- Successful experience in change management and steering an organization from one stage of growth to the next
