Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Resource Development and Marketing, the Senior Director of Marketing and Communications is a key member of the Resource Development and Marketing and will lead the communications and marketing strategies for United Way. A major aspect of this role will be telling United Way’s story and how our work fits within the Square One Project. You’ll achieve this through innovative solutions, development of best practices, exceptional communication and a can-do attitude. You will manage the marketing team, various cross-functional teams, and outside vendors, ensuring United Way’s goals and targets are achieved and long-term relationships are built with donors and other stakeholders. You will develop an in-depth understanding of the donor base and seek to forge strong internal relationships with a variety of departments to facilitate communication and collaboration. Lastly, as United Way receives more grant funding for specific programs, your role will be to develop strategies and fulfill the requirements of the grant while connecting the programs to Square One.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Create and execute marketing and communications strategies to meet United Way’s objectives
  • Lead the production and management of all internal and external organizational communications
  • Serve as the creative lead and project manager for all marketing materials and creative assets, and ensure United Way’s brand standards are upheld. Special attention will be paid to United Way’s programs.
  • Direct and manage graphic designers from concept through project completion
  • Manage relationship with outside PR agency and all day-to-day PR activities
  • Manage websites, including content and design
  • Create and execute a multi-faced annual digital advertising campaign 
  • Manage various digital and direct mail campaigns
  • Supervise all aspects of United Way events from concept to execution
  • Oversee and monitor activity on social media platforms
  • Supervise department staff including the marketing and events manager, marketing and events specialist and marketing administrative employee
  • Manage the marketing budget
  • Keep abreast of industry trends, best practices, and new opportunities
  • Other duties as assigned
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations or a related field with 7+ years of experience in these or related fields
Skills/Experience: 
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with keen attention to detail
  • Fast mover and thinker with high level of creativity
  • Exceptional initiative and follow through skills
  • Operates with a sense or urgency, focus and discipline
  • Demonstrated expertise in marketing and communications best practices
  • Broad knowledge of web communication techniques and ability to effectively use web technology to achieve communication goals
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Ability to maintain a polished professional appearance
  • Work in an office environment, lift and move objects up to 40 pounds such as large binders, books, boxes, and small office equipment
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written, including the ability to communicate well in a variety of settings with a variety of stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently with a high attention to detail

Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $61,000 to $70,000 per year
