Reporting to the United Way California Capital Region (UWCCR) Financial Stability Program Officer and working directly with UWCRR’s current K2C Program Coordinator, this K2C Program Coordinator will be responsible for implementing the Every Kid Counts (EKC) grant in partnership with the City of Sacramento (which is funding this position). The EKC grant runs from May 1, 2019 to April 30, 2021, and will help UWCCR and the City to significantly expand the scope and impact of their existing college savings partnerships. The program is currently active at ten schools in Sacramento, and the EKC funding will allow the partners to add six new schools to the program as well. The current K2C Program Coordinator will be responsible for UWCCR’s eight schools, while this new K2C Program Coordinator will be responsible for the eight schools under the City of Sacramento’s umbrella and for being the primary liaison with the City for program planning and implementation. Both Coordinators will serve on and co-manage the K2C Steering Committee. This position consistently exercises a high degree of initiative, independent judgment and decision-making in selecting alternatives within established guidelines, policies and procedures.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Responsibilities include: Partnership and volunteer development, community engagement, and creating, implementing and/or overseeing program logistics, to include the following: 

  • Transition current opt-in program to an opt-out model to launch in the 2019-2020 school year
  • For both 2019-2020 and 2020-2021, develop procedures and systems to ensure sustainability of the scaled-up K2C program
  • Oversee program operations/administration, data collection, information sharing with participating families, evaluation, and grant reporting
  • Participate actively, collaboratively and positively in the Impact Department
  • Be knowledgeable of UWCCR activities and functions in order to build quality relationships with organizational volunteers, partners and team members

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  • Implement logistics of opt-out model, working closely with all program partners and stakeholders
  • Manage implementation and use of new database recently chosen for program tracking, information sharing and evaluation
  • Work closely with school district employees at all levels to develop a program that is integrated for both families and staff
  • Engage community leaders in supporting and promoting K2C; supervise payments of grant stipends to leaders who support program outreach and engagement
  • Coordinate provision of financial learning opportunities for families at all participating schools
  • Plan and coordinate program-related events
  • Working with UWCCR’s marketing department and the City, support K2C outreach materials development
  • Perform other program-related services and duties as assigned
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in social science, community development, nonprofit management, or other field relatable to job duties
Skills/Experience: 
  • 2+ years of community program/partnership development experience
  • Understanding of collective/collaborative community impact work
  • Experience with grant administration and compliance
  • Experience recruiting and engaging community leaders/volunteers
  • Knowledge of college savings and/or school-based programming a plus
  • Familiarity with community resources in the City and County of Sacramento a plus
  • Bilingual in Spanish, Russian or Hmong a plus
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate well in a variety of settings with a variety of stakeholders
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities
  • Able to react, organize and prioritize within a high pressure, fast-paced environment
  • Outstanding work ethic and willingness to do what it takes to get the job done 
  • Ability to work independently with a high attention to detail
  • Constant decision making and concentration
  • High level of proficiency in various Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to maintain a polished professional appearance 
  • Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality
  • Work in an office environment, lift and move objects up to 40 pounds such as large binders, books, boxes, and small office equipment

WORK ENVIRONMENT

TYPICAL PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES

  • Communicate with staff, volunteers, donors, agencies, companies and other customers by telephone, email, and in face-to-face, one-to-one or group settings
  • Use telephone, laptop, computer, monitor, mouse, keyboard, printer/copier, calculator and standard office equipment
  • Sit at a desk for extended periods of time
  • File and retrieve documents from a manual filing cabinet
  • Lift and move objects up to 40 pounds such as large binders, boxes, books and small office equipment
  • Have sufficient finger/hand coordination and dexterity to operate and adjust office equipment such as telephone, computer, printer/copier and calculator

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Possession of an appropriate California operator’s license issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles, and adequate automobile insurance; possession and maintenance of a good driving record (as evidenced by the absence of multiple or serious traffic violations for at least a two-year duration) that does not contribute to an increase in UWCCR insurance rates.
