The Mental Health and Disabilities Coordinator reports directly to the Mental Health/Disabilities Manager and is responsible for comprehensive support and monitoring of mental health and disabilities services and practices; ensuring documentation, tracking and compliance of mental health and disability special services in accordance with Head Start Program Performance Standards.
As a front-line representative of Save the Children, the position holder is required to ensure the safety and security of children and families that he/she comes in contact with adhering to the agency’s values of Accountability, Ambition, Collaboration, Creativity, and Integrity.

Responsibilities and Impact
- Ensure planning, coordination, tracking and monitoring of mental health and disabilities services.
- Ensure integration of Individual Education Plans (IHPs), Individual Family Support Plans (IFSPs) or other mental health and nutrition special needs of children into individualized planning for children and attends case coordination meetings with other staff as needed.
- Support staff in ensuring that required screenings, assessments, and overall individualization are occurring in classrooms and assists with child/family referral processes as needed.
- Coordinates with local mental health and disabilities providers and center staff to ensure children receive designated services.
- Work with classroom staff to ensure quality teaching and learning environments.

- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor and Directors.
Educational Background:
High School degree, GED, Associate’s degree or some college preferred.
Skills/Experience:
- Two years’ work experience in a position that directly relates to the provision of mental health and disabilities services.
- Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills. Ability to work collaboratively with other staff and community partners in the provision of high quality services and resources to families.
- Acceptable tuberculosis screening results, a clear criminal records check (including child abuse registry check and sex offender registry check if required by state regulations), MSDH Certificate of Immunization Compliance (MSDH Form #121) and an initial health exam are required post job offer and prior to employment.
- Clear criminal records check (including child abuse registry check if required by state regulations) and pass all state and local health requirements required post job offer and prior to employment. To drive agency vehicles (if applicable), must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable by the Save the Children Head Start insurance carrier and have a Motor Vehicle Record acceptable to Save the Children Head Start. Current and former Head Start/Early Head Start parents will receive preference for employment vacancies for which they are qualified.
