The Learning and Research Coordinator will lead learning and continuous improvement efforts to increase the impact of United Way’s community change strategies. As the key content expert related to research and data analysis, they develop and implement learning agendas for key United Way efforts, develop systems for data collection and analysis, and provide for communication and storytelling about data.

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, a relationship-building orientation, and an ability to communicate complex information in an accessible way. They understand and can implement effective strategies for using data as a learning and planning tool. They demonstrate intercultural competence and a commitment to racial, gender, and socioeconomic equity.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Serve as the organization’s primary collector, interpreter, and storyteller when it comes to research and data, including:
    • Collecting, analyzing, evaluating, and presenting results related to the work of UWOC and its partner programs
    • Identifying, collecting, and compiling relevant sources of local, state, federal, and other data in order to assess community conditions and needs, as well as the long-term impact of UWOC’s work
    • Accessing and synthesizing primary research to inform UWOC’s understanding of emerging trends in human services and current local/regional/national conditions
    • Creating meaningful, easy-to-read reports for internal and external audiences
  • Create and implement continuous improvement processes for impact programs and projects
  • Oversee learning efforts in collaboration with community partners and volunteers, including facilitating workgroups and managing volunteers
  • Provide data and research support for internal and external efforts, ensuring meaningful data collection and analysis and developing processes that facilitate organizational learning through data

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in and conduct local data collection, research, and evaluation workshops
  • Learn in partnership with external organizations, especially other local and regional research and evaluation organizations
  • Periodically attend UWOC and community events.
  • Perform other duties as requested
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field (e.g. program evaluation, statistics, data analysis, social services, public health, etc.)
Skills/Experience: 
  • At least two years of relevant work or volunteer experience
  • Intercultural competence and demonstrated commitment to advancing racial, economic, and/or gender equity within organizations or communities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with program evaluation preferred
  • Experience with nonprofit or human services organizations preferred
  • Must be able to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed

We expect a successful candidate to grow into the following knowledge, skills, and abilities if they are not currently present:

  • Effectively use statistical and survey software packages
  • Understand, evaluate, and implement quantitative and qualitative research design methods
  • Effectively use database and data visualization tools to communicate key information
  • Understand and implement Results-Based Accountability measurement framework
  • Understand key issues in health, education, and financial stability at the local, state, and national level
