Work with United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra (UWNNS) staff and volunteer teams to carry out UWNNS’s mission to link the community’s will and resources to improve lives. Primary function is operationalizing UWNNS Community Impact strategies overseeing and implementing the process of fund distribution, funded agency, and partnership support, community research, and community collaboration development. This position has additional responsibilities in the strategic areas of Donor Engagement, Education and Engagement, and Accountability.   

Areas of Responsibility: 

COMMUNITY IMPACT

  • Facilitate the development, maintenance and monitoring of the overall UWNNS Community Impact strategy.
  • Develop and ensure processes are in place to identify potential partnerships/ grantees to work in collaboration with UWNNS to achieve Board goals.  Explore additional, deepened and developed partnerships in pursuit of issue goals.  
  • Direct the operation of all planning, funding/ resource investment and community impact activities in the strategic investment areas of the organization.
  • Maintain effective relationships with the Community Impact partners including the handling of agency requests and facilitation on United Way and community endeavors.
  • Execute oversight, monitoring, tracking, and reporting of performance of programs funded.
  • Monitor and adhere to nonprofit standards. 
  • Ensure ability to track and measure progress towards achievement of issue-related goals.
    • Support ongoing UWNNS Community Impact initiatives/ activities through development, implementation, oversight, and evaluation to include (but not limited to): MyFreeTaxes, Nevada 211, Familywize, and Emergency Food and Shelter Program.
  • Provide staff support to the Community Impact Chair, Committee, and Subcommittees.
  • Analyze data, narratives and develop ‘dashboard’ information and relevant stories and illustrations of UWNNS Community Impact deliverables.
  • Grant Management and Reporting: Responsible for departmental grant outcomes reporting and tracking as required by grantmakers.

DONOR ENGAGEMENT

  • Collaborate with the Donor Engagement team on activities as assigned including Major Gifts (e.g. bring funding opportunities to potential donors and stewarding donors).
  • In conjunction with the Donor Engagement team, participate in grant proposal writing.  Assist in re-application on continuing grants and create new proposals.

EDUCATION AND ENGAGEMENT

  • Represent UWNNS in the community with various audiences, educating about the community impact of UWNNS; tie work to positive community results; promote engagement of the community with UWNNS and its work.
  • Responsible for content elements of education and engagement materials, as assigned.
  • Participate in cross-committee discussions between Community Impact, Donor Engagement, and Marketing/Communications to develop effective sales and outreach messaging about UWNNS’s work. 
  • Effectively represent the UWNNS within the community by maintaining contacts with and making presentations to local organizations, businesses, and individuals.
  • Clearly communicate the UWNNS mission, values and funding opportunities. 

ACCOUNTABILITY & LEADERSHIP

  • Serve as a member of the Management Team developing strategies to carry out the mission of the UWNNS in accordance with its strategic direction and provide direction to the organization and staff.
  • Provide direction and support as appropriate for meetings of Board of Directors, Executive Committee, staff, and committees. 
  • Partner with volunteers and UWNNS staff management team to help ensure organizational performance objectives are achieved.
  • Ensure coordination and alignment of UWNNS activities in the areas of community impact, marketing, and communications.
  • Develop and manage budgets related to areas of responsibility.
  • Attend special event fundraisers, public relations, and networking events on a regular basis representing UWNNS.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Willingness to attend national and regional conferences and workshops to develop the skills and knowledge required for the position.

Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree. 
Skills/Experience: 
  • Excellent communicator.
  • Experience in research and planning; knowledge of nonprofits, human services, and philanthropy.
  • Facilitative skills
  • Strong analytical ability; must be able to interpret, report and use data.
  • Ability to lead and convene community groups around specific human services issues.
  • Well-organized, efficient, detail-oriented.
  • Ability to work on many different types of tasks and work well with others to accomplish the work of the organization.
  • Strong volunteer management skills and ability to staff volunteer committees.
  • Experience in working with diverse populations.
  • Ability to develop donor relationships by utilizing excellent interpersonal communication, and customer service skills.
  • Have a reliable vehicle; possess a current driver’s license and auto insurance, to complete some required tasks for UWNNS.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED OR PREFERRED:

  • Three-Five years nonprofit experience required.
  • A minimum of two years of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Grant development and management experience required.
  • Knowledge of program evaluation methodologies and outcome measurement preferred.
