The United Way of Berks County seeks an experienced and dynamic leader to serve as the Senior Vice President - Community Impact.  This individual develops, implements, manages and evaluates programs meeting United Way of Berks County's community impact goals in the areas of education, financial stability, health and safety net services.  This work is accomplished through United Way funded and managed programs provided in partnership with local companies, schools, community organizations and volunteers.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Provides leadership for United Way's efforts to demonstrate its value and effectiveness as the community's partner of choice for creating solutions to Berks County's health and human service issues.
  • Provides oversight for the investment and distribution of United Way financial resources necessary to effectively impact community issues.
  • Provides direction and oversight of United Way managed collective impact efforts like Ready.Set. READ!
  • Provides leadership in the process needed to secure, manage and comply with government, private, corporate and foundation grants designed to impact community issues.
  • Provides leadership in developing the Community Impact Division's 3-year strategic plan and annual work plans and documenting progress on achieving them.
  • Creates a strong community impact team by working with volunteers to maximize their assets in an efficient manner.
  • Creates a strong community impact team by working with staff to maximize their assets in an efficient manner.
  • Provides a work environment that promotes quality and continuous improvement and fosters the most efficiency and effective use of all organizational resources.
  • Participates in the development of the strategic and operational direction of the organization.
  • Maintains frequent contact with all other United Way of Berks County staff, with community impact volunteers/leadership, United Way donors and constituents and with community agencies and organizations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Physical Demands:  The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  While performing these duties employee is frequently required to sit, walk, talk and hear.  Employee is regularly required to stand, reach, stoop, handle and/or lift up to 10 pounds.  Occasionally employee will need to lift, move, and handle items up to 25 pounds.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions of the position.
  • Travel:  Regular travel to attend meetings within the County of Berks and occasionally outside of the county and/or state is expected.  Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some evening, out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:As applicable:  Valid driver’s license, state mandated automobile insurance and reliable transportation or access to reliable and available transportation.
  • Expected Hours of Work:  This position is expected to adhere to the core hours.  However, this position is required to work any additional hours necessary to perform the duties of the job, which may amount to more than 37.5 hours per week.  This may, on occasion, include weekend work as well.

Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in lieu of degree
Skills/Experience: 
  • Five or more years of experience in the areas of human services planning, needs assessment, budget preparation, interaction with public officials, and working with community agencies and organizations.
  • Five years of experience supervising professional staff members.  Management experience in a human service organization is desirable.
  • Demonstrated successful track record in building programs and teams leading to successful results.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the field and a passion for serving under-served and under-resourced individuals, families and/or communities.
  • Demonstrated commitment and experience for promoting a results-oriented approach to human services program design and implementation.
  • Respected leader in human services and/or grant-making field, with demonstrated credibility with the sector, or a demonstrated ability to cultivate such a reputation.
  • Proven record as a strong leader and manager of people.
