The Volunteer Engagement Coordinator will help build and implement strategies designed to further the program’s mission, goals and visibility, including community outreach, Days of Service, volunteer special events, and other activities as directed. The Volunteer Engagement Coordinator will also develop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures for volunteers, work closely with each department to identify volunteer needs and roles, improve the organization’s volunteer infrastructure, and facilitate all IEUW staff training on volunteer management and project leadership. This full-time, non-exempt position reports to the Director of Community Programs.
Essential Functions – 80%
- Identify and implement strategies to improve and expand the impact of ieVolunteers
- Develop, implement, maintain and/or improve volunteer protocols, including processes for recruiting, scheduling, tracking, and reporting
- Identify opportunities, recruit for, and schedule community volunteers for all internal IEUW programs
- Work with IEUW Community Impact Partners and AmeriCorps host sites to identify and post opportunities
- Work closely with program and development staff to cultivate and maintain positive relationships with volunteers and to create and utilize strategies to keep volunteers engaged with IEUW
- Provide ongoing training and coaching to internal staff in the area of volunteer and project management
- Update and maintain content on volunteer software; track volunteer information; report data as needed
- Coordinate and supervise IEUW managed volunteer projects for corporate/community groups
- Work closely with Special Events Manager to coordinate and supervise volunteers for IEUW special events (Gala, Women United, etc.)
- Develop, implement and maintain methods and strategies for volunteer recognition
- Ensure liability, safety and compliance protocols are in place for all ieVolunteers projects/opportunities
- Successfully maintain performance parameters and improve skills through various means
- Work closely with Human Resources Manager to schedule background screening for red level volunteers or interns as well as to develop, review, implement, and update all policies and procedures pertaining to volunteers
Secondary Functions – 20%
- Complete community-building tasks as approved by supervisor or as necessary to further the mission of the department and the overall organization
- Develop program collateral and signage, including forms, flyers, posters and banners
- Other duties as assigned
- Ability to multi-task; strong organizational/planning skills and attention to detail are critical
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills; must be comfortable making public presentations
- Ability to work with diverse groups, including staff team, board members, product donors, volunteers and external stakeholders; excellent people skills
- Strong computer skills with expertise in Windows and Microsoft Office
- Basic familiarity with HTML, web graphics and In Design or equivalent a plus!
- Must have reliable transportation, a valid California Driver’s License, proof of minimum required California vehicle liability insurance and a good driving record
- Must be available and able to work outside traditional office hours, including some evenings and weekends

- This multi-faceted position involves sorting, packing, stocking, loading and unloading of program supplies; participating in community fairs, school/community makeover events, and other off-site activities, including set-up and tear-down; driving for various assignments; assisting in projects which may include painting, drilling, or hammering; general maintenance of program facilities, including creating displays, hanging signage and light cleaning; managing volunteer projects, including set-up and clean-up; and a variety of other physical tasks. These activities involve the ability to twist, pull, push, lift, (up to 30 lbs.), bend, squat, climb, walk, stand, and sit for extended periods; use of pallet jack and/or forklift (with proper training); manual dexterity for operating small tools & equipment; and visual acuity for driving and computer use.
Wage $16.00 per hour, payable bi-weekly. Benefits include vision, dental, medical, life, AD&D and long term disability insurance, 11 paid holidays, accrued vacation and sick-leave.
