IEUW has obtained grant funding dedicated to the purpose of expanding the capacity of 211 to include employment navigation specialization for callers with whom such intense personal assistance may yield improved levels of income. The successful candidate must be a high performing self-starter who can balance research and data entry with relationship building and direct client connection.The 211 Employment Navigator, reporting directly to the 211 Director, is responsible for coordinating the 211 Employment Navigation project activities. This full-time regular, non-exempt position is funded for one year at 32 hours per week and carries the possibility that it may be expanded to 40 hours per week and extended if further funding is obtained.No contract is implied; this position is “at-will” and employment may be terminated at any time by the employee or the employer.The availability of grant funds does not guarantee continued employment.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Essential Functions: 90%

  • Research & document employment needs of users & employers in coordination with the 211 Data & Research Department to expand the scope of employment resources in the 211 database
  • Provide direct outreach to area employers and employment agencies to gain support for identifying and building relationships with cooperating businesses, and create profiles for recurring living-wage employment positions at those companies
  • Work with the 211 Director and the county Workforce Development Department (WDD) to continue shaping and evolving the 211 Employment Navigation program, and inserting the deliverables into the IEUW Strategic Plan
  • Create protocols and training materials in coordination with the 211 Training Coordinator and WDD
  • Represent United Way 211 at appropriate meetings and events
  • Responsible for documenting processes and progress and reporting out to project funders

Secondary Functions: 10%

  • Meet, greet and tour visitors as a part of support building and donor relations
  • Other duties as assigned
Educational Background: 
Bachelors or Master’s Degree desirable but not required
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum 2 years of Social Service experience helpful but not required
  • Experience and understanding of Employment Resources
  • Ability to multi-task; strong organizational/planning skills and attention to details are critical
  • Excellent mentorship, teamwork, and both written and oral communication skills; must be comfortable making public presentations
  • Ability to work with diverse groups, including staff team, board members, volunteers and external stakeholders
  • Must be available full time, 32 hours per week, typically between 8 am-5 pm Monday-Friday, but with possible requirements outside the normal workweek.  May be required to work 12-hour shifts 7 days a week in the event of disaster
  • Strong computer skills with expertise in Windows and Microsoft Office
  • Technical knowledge such as familiarity with internet protocols
  • Must have reliable transportation, valid California drivers’ license and minimum California liability insurance
  • In the event of a disaster, may be required to work 12-hour shifts, 7 days per week
Compensation/Benefits: 

Wage $19.00/hour, payable bi-weekly. Benefits include medical, vision, dental, life, AD&D and long term disability insurance, 11 paid holidays, and accrued vacation and sick-leave.
