Last year, United Way of Pueblo County was proud to celebrate 95 years of service to the Pueblo community. United Way was formed in 1923, when Pueblo leaders raised contributions for those in need by going door-to-door. Over the years, the community-wide fundraising efforts went through many name changes before it became what it is today. It was known first as the Community Chest, then United Fund, then United Way. While the name changed, the mission remained constant – to raise funds whereby donors could give to a single effort and help support a variety of critically needed health and human services in our community. Our organizational mission is to develop donor resources to enhance the quality of life for the people of Pueblo County. We are autonomous, directing our own course based on community needs and direction given by our local governing board. Over the years, we have invested well over $47,000,000 into programs and services in Pueblo from campaign revenue alone. United Way of Pueblo County funds over 25 different nonprofits in Pueblo, and has two internal programs - our United Way Middle School Mentoring Program and our Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program.
