The American Heart Association is recruiting for a Director Business Operations. This position will be responsible for ensuring and executing the logistics and administrative support for events that take place in Rhode Island and New Hampshire are managed efficiently and effectively to successfully achieve priorities and provide effective support of fundraising staff and events in a timely manner. This position will require some evening and weekend hours in support of fundraising events and meetings as well as travel to the Manchester, NH office as needed.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • supervision of event administrative support staff;
  • providing administrative and logistical support to fundraising directors for assigned events;
  • overseeing planning and execution of events in the territory;
  • coordinating logistics at up to two assigned events;
  • recruiting and supervising volunteers for fundraising events;
  • providing administrative support to the Executive Director and Board of Directors for RI
  • managing and coordinating office needs (e.g. supplies; copier; etc.) in support of the affiliate Business Operations Department.

In this role, you will be based at our Providence, RI office and report to the Senior Director of Business Operations. You will supervise administrative staff in Providence, RI and Manchester, NH office and you will work closely with the Executive Directors and fundraising staff in the Rhode Island and New Hampshire regions.

Educational Background: 
 Must have earned a high school diploma or GED. College degree or some college a plus. Related experience may be substituted as follows: 1 ½ years experience equates to 1 full time year of higher education.

  • ability to work effectively with administrative staff, managers, and volunteers, including diffusing and handling employee relations issues;
  • handle confidential matters with discretion;
  • excellent communication skills;
  • ability to organize, prioritize and multi-task;
  • experience coordinating the work of subordinate staff;
  • proficient in using Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
  • experience with Publisher and other graphics programs, internet and database applications is highly desirable;
  • ability and willingness to work outside standard hours including evenings and weekends as needed in support of meetings and events;
  • willingness and ability to travel to other affiliate offices as needed for meetings and training.
  • At least 2 years of administrative support experience with at least one year of experience supervising administrative support staff is highly desirable. This experience may also count towards satisfying this position’s educational requirement.
