Project Manager - Hands On Corporate Events and Special Events

Hands On Greater Portland serves as the volunteer center for Multnomah and Washington Counties and makes more than 20,000 volunteer connections a year with 250+ nonprofit partners.

The Project Manager is responsible for the successful fulfillment of Hands On corporate and large community volunteer projects and events.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Event management
    • Develop, project manage, and lead large scale community and corporate events from start to finish, including developing individual projects and stewarding relationships with nonprofit partners. Examples include: MLK Weekend of Service, Cares Day, and Stand Together Week.
    • Manage and support other events as specified
    • Maintain inventory of Hands On project tools and supplies
  • Business Cares project management
    • Develop and manage volunteer projects for corporate groups
    • Provide excellent customer service and relationship management to corporate contact
    • Manage project budgets
    • Evaluate and report project accomplishments
  • Days of Service management
    • Develop and manage United Way corporate partner projects
    • Provide excellent customer service to corporate contact
  • Participate in Hands On volunteer intake & referral (I&R)
    • Participate in shared responsibility of all Hands On Team members to answer phones and emails on one assigned day per week
    • Demonstrate I&R knowledge and core competencies
  • Participate as an active member of Hands On and UW Team, completing other assignments as needed  
    • Participate in the planning and execution of the annual Partner Breakfast, as needed
    • Participate in Hands On Social Media campaigns
    • Provide reception back-up for United Way on an as-needed basis
    • Complete other special assignments, as assigned

Supervision and Working Relationships

  • Supervisory Direction Received:
    • Position works under the general direction of the Director-Hands On. Work subject to review and evaluation by the Director-Hands On.
  • Working Relationships:
    • United Way/Hands On staff, current and prospective volunteers, local nonprofits, corporate representatives, community members
  • Supervises:
    • No direct reports
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree; or a comparable combination of experience and education
Skills/Experience: 
  • Three years of experience that aligns with the position’s requirements;
  • Proficiency with a Windows operating system, MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet, and Salesforce programs preferred
  • Valid driver’s license, automobile insurance, and access to a reliable vehicle. Experience and comfort driving a large truck/van, i.e., 20’ vehicle that we rent and use to move tools and supplies to volunteer project sites

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequently moves tools and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds from local tool bank to volunteer project site and from retail stores such as Home Depot to volunteer project site (up to several times per month or more)
  • Consistently works on volunteer project sites, stooping, kneeling, crawling, reaching, ascending/descending ladders, lifting and moving tools, painting, building, etc. (several times per month or more)
  • Consistently works in outdoor weather conditions on volunteer project sites (several times per month or more)
  • Work is also performed indoors, within an open office setting with a moderate noise level and occasional exposure to scents.
  • Frequently required to sit/stand at computer in a stationery position.
  • Frequently operates a computer and other office productivity equipment, such as copy machine, printer, phone, and fax machine.
  • Frequently required to move about inside the office for meetings, access to information, office equipment, etc.
