The Director of Corporate Relations (D-CR) is responsible for creating and implementing strategies and building relationships to increase revenue with current and prospective corporate donors. The D-CR leads a concerted effort to establish and grow meaningful relationships with company leadership, key influencers/stakeholders in an effort to retain our current donor base and develop new donor relationships. In partnership with the Corporate Relations Team the D-CR will maximize giving through the execution of corporate giving opportunities, workplace giving campaigns and customized strategic partnerships.                

The D-CR is also responsible for developing and managing UW’s corporate sponsorship and strategic partnership program; inspiring and activating corporate giving and momentum among current and prospective corporate donors. In addition, the D-CR is responsible for developing metrics and goals for leadership and Corporate Relations staff, creating plans for CEO visits, conducting corporate giving analysis and providing regular guidance and support to a team of corporate fundraisers.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Strategic Planning for Corporate Relations Team (30%)

  • Responsible for creating annual team operations plans in service to the larger Resource Development Department plan to advance our relationships and grow revenue with corporate partners
  • The D-CR will oversee the fundraising responsibilities of the CR Team. These responsibilities include the successful implementation and expansion of fundraising strategies to support United Way’s community impact work
  • The D-CR leads the CR Team in the development of both individualized corporate donor plans and overall corporate giving strategy, with an priority placed on opportunities to secure additional funding outside of the annual workplace campaign
  • Leads internal Workplace Action group to strategize and execute strategic changes in workplace giving
  • Works with Resource Development Operations Team to develop reporting and analytical tools to advance fundraising, workplace campaign planning and execution
  • Track revenue generation, donor retention, donor visits, and key business activity throughout the year

Corporate Donor Management (30%)

  • Leads team and is accountable for building strong, mutually beneficial relationships with a curated portfolio of largest corporate partners and potential prospects
  • Accountable for completing face-to-face meetings, in partnership with the Corporate Relations Team
  • Leads team and manages time, holding team accountable to spend a minimum of 50% of time out of the office meeting with corporate partners
  • In partnership with the Chief Development Officer and the VP of Major and Planned Gifts, develop plan to engage individual donors who give through the workplace
  • Leads team in providing the appropriate experience for donors by promptly handling inquiries, regularly communicating about UWCW investments and the community impact those investments are making
  • Authentically shares United Way’s work in communities of color and the disparate impact poverty has in these communities
  • Evaluates all corporate accounts to establish tiers of service to help determine appropriate account portfolios for each team member
  • Generates new business and revenue streams within corporate giving and workplace giving

Strategic Partnerships/Sponsorship (25%)

  • Oversees all corporate sponsorships for the organization including relationship/moves management, solicitation and renewals
  • Develops new sponsorship opportunities throughout the organization
  • Serves as lead on all Corporate Social Responsibility opportunities with corporate donors
  • Working with both staff and volunteers, the D-CR will drive the execution of their plan and manage the action steps and results from these efforts

Goals and Objectives (10%)

  • In partnership with Chief Development Officer, Develops metrics and objectives for Resource Development staff and work with team to ensure staff members are held accountable for assigned objectives
  • Works with the Director-RD Operations to ensure timely corporate campaign analysis and reporting
  • Develops and executes a comprehensive plan to successfully deploy staff and volunteer resources against revenue objectives
  • In partnership with the Director-RD Operations, maintains accurate and detailed donor and account records in database in order to analyze the effectiveness of the plan against delivering objectives
  • Organizes relationship management and donor responsibilities efficiently and effectively

Volunteer and External Relationship Management ( 5%)

  • Builds relationships within communities of color in an effort to retain United Way’s current donor base and develop new relationships.
  • Works with the Chief Development Officer and Vice President-Major Gifts to think creatively about how to best utilize volunteer leaders in fundraising efforts
  • Regularly attends, participates and reports in Strategic Development Committee and Board Meetings

Staff Leadership and Development  (Daily)

  • The D-CR is responsible for coaching and managing a high-performance team to create vision and strategies to enhance relationships between United Way and our corporate community
  • Selects, guides, motivates, and participates in the training, professional development, and evaluation of direct reports
  • Provides goal-setting, visioning, leadership, and strategic direction for CR  Team members 
  • Directs and manages CR staff activities. Ensures that team members are invested in team activities and decisions and that the team works together to achieve organizational goals
  • Responsible for accurate and timely completion and/or approval of organizational documents, including but not limited to performance reviews, professional development plans, goals and objectives, timekeeping, expense and travel reimbursements, credit card reports, requisitions, and ongoing documentation of performance accomplishments and areas requiring improvement
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s Degree, or a comparable combination of experience and education
Skills/Experience: 
  • 8+ years sales or fundraising experience in either for-profit or nonprofit entities,
  • Minimum 3 years supervisory skills and experience
  • Focused sales/marketing experience with an applied emphasis on donor relationship building; demonstrated success with effective listening skills
  • Effective public speaker
  • Effective oral and written communications skills with an ability to relate with a diverse group of individuals or organizations in an effective manner
  • Effective skills/ability to tell the UW story in a compelling and inspirational way
  • Ability to think strategically with proven, strong ability to execute on plan
  • Ability to take initiative and be creative in thinking and solutions
  • High-performing individual who takes initiative with a positive outlook who can manage ambiguity and change
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a portfolio of donors
  • Manage expectations of internal team members effectively and a strong desire and aptitude to be part of a team environment
  • Demonstrated ability to persuade others and to close sales opportunities
  • The appropriate candidate will be a leader and a creative and sharp thinker. They will be able to negotiate various internal and external interests and tasks simultaneously as well as manage other related duties.

Technical Knowledge:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Outlook required (currently used organizationally)
  • Proficient computer skills (familiarity with constituent relationship management systems and electronic giving preferred)
  • Must have valid driver’s license, automobile insurance, and a reliable vehicle
