United Way of Southwestern PA Economic Mobility

There’s an amazing feeling that comes from helping others. As United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania, the more we unite community resources to support financially struggling families, the more families we can move toward stability, not just survival. As an AmeriCorps VISTA, you have the power to make a big impact in the lives of others in our local community. VISTA will build the capacity and expand programming for the Free Tax Prep initiative. The Free Tax Prep Campaign (FTP) offers free tax preparation and asset-building services to low-income workers so that they can receive their full refund at tax time and access key tax credits. As the convener of the Free Tax Prep coalition, this United Way plans to leverage the tax program’s touch with low-to-moderate income individuals and families by integrating existing technology to help increase the income and assets of tax clients.

United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania’s employee culture is one of service, kindness, and resourcefulness. A successful VISTA candidate is flexible, self-motivated, detail-oriented, and emotionally intelligent. As a result of VISTA’s efforts, United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania will better understand what combination of income services are currently available to the target community, where service gaps are, what best practices can be adopted to enhance program impact, and how to leverage United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania resources to better achieve our goals. Together with your help, we will transform the lives of the most vulnerable children and families in Southwestern Pennsylvania.
