The United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania (UWSWPA) is seeking a dedicated, detail-oriented Accounts Payable Specialist for our Pittsburgh office. For more than 90 years, the United Way has inspired donors in the region to invest in their community and address pressing economic and societal problems.

The Accounts Payable Specialist will be responsible for overseeing the accounts payable function, including preparing and reviewing invoices; billing invoices; processing credit card transactions; and processing the daily bank statement.

The United Way of Southwestern PA has achieved a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator for eight consecutive years, a feat accomplished by only 3% of nonprofit organizations. In this role, you will help to ensure the integrity of our financial operations.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Processing invoices for the Pittsburgh and Westmoreland offices with a high degree of accuracy
  • Performing weekly vendor payments
  • Updating vendor records with accurate, up-to-date information
  • Processing contributor choices and partner allocations
  • Tracking monthly expenses
  • Processing credit card transactions (vendor) on a monthly basis
  • Accounts receivable billing

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Providing guidance to contingent workers (temporary staff, interns, etc.)
  • Increasing the number of vendors paid via ACH payments
  • Developing written instructions for accounting processes (AP input, payouts, etc.)
  • Processing 1099s
  • Assisting with the preparation of the Form 990
  • Running daily bank statement
  • Reconciling investments and various general ledger accounts
  • Producing monthly manager financial reports
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting, or equivalent combination of education and experience required
Skills/Experience: 
  • Strong administrative and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication abilities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Capable of managing multiple tasks with strict deadlines
  • Familiarity with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles)
  • Excellent organizational and customer service skills 
  • Strong understanding of fundraising and accounting software preferred
  • Three years of accounting and/or business experience preferred
Compensation/Benefits: 

Compensation: Non-exempt. Range of $18.46 - $22.56 per hour depending on skills and experience
