This is a full-time seasonal position (Mid-March through June) that works with United Way’s Engagement team to coordinate volunteer projects and support events and affinity group programming. The Program Coordinator will support placement of corporate partners with volunteer projects including outreach to companies and agencies plus full-service logistical coordination. Additionally, they will support program execution for United Way’s Young Leaders Board Orientation Program (YLP) and the Greater Philadelphia Corporate Volunteer Council. This position requires travel throughout the Southeastern Pennsylvania region.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Volunteer Coordination

  • Identify and recruit agency partners to host volunteer projects; help develop and document experiences suited for groups of corporate volunteers.   Assist agencies with posting projects to online portal.
  • Coordinate logistics for volunteer projects and events including matching corporate groups with agency partners; manage venues, ordering and transporting supplies, and sometimes catering.
  • Attend events, deliver United Way presentation and provide volunteer management support as required to ensure high quality engaging volunteer experiences.

Donor Outreach

  • Reach out to campaign partners to promote year-round engagement with United Way, featuring volunteerism but also promoting affinity groups, events and ongoing communications.
  • Solicit and secure sponsorships for volunteer projects and United Way events.
  • Assist United Way fundraising staff with workplace campaigns including ordering/delivering supplies, making sales presentations and collecting campaign proceeds.
  • Contact generous (Kind Society) donors by phone to thank them and encourage attendance at recognition events and/or volunteer events

Program Coordination

  • Coordinate event space, catering and other logistics including on-site support for registration, hospitality, set-up and clean-up.  
  • Assist with development and production of program materials.
  • Facilitate communication with program presenters and participants, including invitations, confirmations, program updates, evaluations and thank yous.
  • Administrative Support
  • Perform administrative tasks such as ordering supplies, preparing mailing lists/correspondence, managing invoices, collecting payments and scheduling appointments and meetings.
  • Provide customer service in response to calls and inquiries.
  • Update centralized database and other tracking systems with appropriate documentation.

    • UWGPSNJ vision, mission, value proposition & strategic objectives.
    • UWGPSNJ Community Impact agenda and priorities.
    • Volunteer engagement opportunities and mobilization strategies
    • Messaging platform and communication tools
Educational Background: 
BS or BA degree in Business or Social Sciences preferred, or equivalent experience
Skills/Experience: 
  • 1-2 years experience in managing volunteers, programs, events and/or customer service.
  • Communications Skills:  strong written and verbal skills
  • Relationship Skills: Able to establish and maintain good rapport and relationships with external stakeholders, diverse constituents, and staff. 
  • Teamwork: Able to accomplish objectives in a team-based environment; able to develop, engage and motivate external constituents to perform well in teams/committees.
  • Management/Execution:  Ability to achieve desired outcomes by setting goals and priorities that deliver results; ability to take ownership and drive activities to successful completion; strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Technology: Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook, Excel, and Word; willingness and ability to learn database software
  • Daily access to a car required; possession of a valid driver’s license, proof of auto insurance.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Compensation is $20/Hour
