Senior Vice President - Community Impact and Analytics

The SVP, Community Impact and Analytics is responsible for leading the strategic investment of United Way’s financial and non-financial resources to create the greatest possible impact in helping improve outcomes for individuals and families and achieving community-level change. Essential to this work is developing and adopting community-wide goals and implementing a strategic and cohesive plan for impact to make progress on these goals, all based on an understanding of community needs, an awareness of community resources, a knowledge of local and national best practice strategies (financial, advocacy, volunteer, other), leveraging and aligning UWM’s unique strengths and abilities to support the strategies, engaging in relationships and partnerships, and measuring results. The SVP, Community Impact leads the Community Impact and Analytics departments, and leads the organization as a member of the Senior Leadership Team.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • In collaboration with the President/CEO and senior leaders, set the vision, direction and overall approach to execution of the impact agenda.
  • Ensure appropriate organization and deployment of Community Impact and Analytics Department resources to achieve goals.
  • Demonstrate an advanced ability to think strategically about the unique role, approaches and contributions of United Way of the Midlands.
  • Set and execute against measurable community-level goals and track community investments, impact metrics and results to produce market-facing reports, including UWM’s 2025 goals.
  • Oversee development and implementation of UWM investment “products” impact models, initiatives, partnerships and systems.
  • Actively cultivates relationships and develops strategic partnerships with community, public sector, foundation and corporate leaders to maximize UWM’s leadership positioning in community impact efforts.
  • Partner with Donor Engagement department in grant funding, developing relationships with local and national foundation and corporate leadership that result in unique opportunities that advance community impact work in collaboration with other funders and community partners.
  • Insure that quality control policies and procedures are in place and consistently practiced in grant making and grant management activities under the purview of the CIA department.
  • Oversee quality control and assurance systems for fund distribution, evaluation and results reporting.
  • As a member of executive leadership, work and collaborate with the President/CEO and other senior leaders to ensure a clear and consistent vision and path to execution.
  • Identify and recruit a diverse and dynamic group of business, academic and community change leaders to serve on the Community Investment Cabinet, a standing committee of the Board of Directors.
  • Demonstrate the ability to thrive and lead in a dynamic organization that operates in a highly complex and changing community environment.
  • Represent UWM externally in a variety of arenas with focus on the cultivation of strategic relationships to advance the impact agenda and increase resources.
  • Represent UWM externally among a host of key stakeholders with a focus on building consensus, enhancing regional collaboration, and delivering on United Way's value proposition to drive work that no one organization can do alone.
  • As the leader of the Community Impact and Analytics Department, build a high performing team. Coach and develop the Community Impact and Analytics staff.
  • Present to the Board of Directors and Committees of the Board, as well as management of Community Impact Cabinet meetings.
  • Maintain knowledge and expertise of the current and evolving trends in UWM's priority areas and the organization as a whole.
  • Driving is an essential function of this position.

Marginal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Attendance at community events/meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Manage Community Impact and Analytics Directors. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Educational Background: 
Master's degree or equivalent in social work, public policy, nonprofit management or related field; and ten years of progressive leadership-level related experience.
Skills/Experience: 
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must demonstrate the ability to develop strategic working relationships with opinion leaders and change-makers across the community’s philanthropic, business and government sectors.
  • He or she should have extensive experience in leading high performing teams, including both volunteers and staff, in the design and delivery of results-based, high-profile, large scale initiatives, programs and advocacy/public policy efforts.
