The Marketing Manager is responsible for supporting the Director of Development & Marketing (DDM) in developing and implementing expert strategies and communications that result in the increased awareness and growth of United Way of Northern Utah. Some of the key roles of the Marketing Manager will be to assist in implementing and tracking marketing and advertising strategies, working with staff, organization-wide to develop effective communications and promotional materials, executing digital and social marketing initiatives, executing successful and intentional events that enhance the local brand and to assist in the creation of effective campaign communications that raise funds and awareness within the resource development department.
Marketing Materials and Strategies
- Work with DDM to strategize and develop marketing materials for events/campaigns.
- Assist in creating marketing materials and collateral for all departments working with a graphic design vendor as needed.
- Assist in managing United Way brand including logo usage and other trademarked materials across organization (ensure consistent, appropriate usage).
- Assist in managing quality control of all marketing and collateral materials, such as video production, annual report, pledge cards, brochures, etc.
- Copywriting and editing as needed. Donor/Targeted Audience Relations
- Work with DMD and Resource Development team to develop marketing solutions and materials that drive fundraising and increase resources.
- Work with DMD and RD team to create direct mail, email strategies and campaigns.
- Cultivate targeted communications to donors and donor segments.
- Assist in generating substantive publicity and media attention to support marketing strategies throughout the year.
- Closely assist Corporate Relations Director with workplace campaign promotional materials (Localized posters, flyers, photography, and social media promotion).
- Develops compelling written and video stories that showcase UWNU’s value and impact in the community to build deeper donor relationships and generate new relationships.
Advertising
- Assist DDM in cultivating relationships with volunteers, vendors and advertising firms to leverage advertising budget to extend United Way’s reach to targeted audiences.
- Assist DDM in designing strategic materials/communicating clear direction to vendors.
- Manage and grow social media accounts with intentional and effective messaging.
- Manage digital advertising and online visibility (Google AdWords, Facebook, etc.)
- Assist DDM in communicating to contractors in designing advertising materials and the placement of media buys not included in advertising agreement.
- Manage website content (creation, schedule, and updates) and works closely with website vendor to make needed changes to the structure, appearance, or functionality.
- Reviews, tracks, gathers and analyzes materials showcasing UWNU in the media and creates regular reports to evaluate the impact of stories on the organization. Media Relations
- Assist DDM in distributing news, press releases, talking points, and article pitches to media channels.
- Continuously cultivating new media relationships and growing UWNU’s network.
- Maintain and update media list that allows access to various audiences to be reached.
- Assist in scheduling appearances with appropriate audiences to promote United Way’s mission. Likewise, work with print media to achieve the same.
- Assist in managing public responses and reputation.
Events
- Coordinate with volunteers, staff, and vendors in planning and executing events within budget (Bravo Night, Day of Caring, etc.)
- Assist DDM in creating event signage and materials, working with all departments, especially Resource Development.
- Assist in fulfilling sponsorship benefits.
- Event setup and breakdown as needed. Administrative Functions
- Perform duties in accordance with United Way policies and procedures such as attending staff meetings and conferences, completing accurate and timely timesheets and expense reports.
- Manages data to continuously monitor and evaluate goals and progress and recalibrates goals and / or plans when necessary
- Manage and submit marketing department budget reports as appropriate.
- Minimum 2-5 years experience in marketing, communication or public relations working with diverse populations.
- Skilled and passionate communicator using game-changing platforms and methods for distributing and amplifying United Way’s message.
- Adapt successfully to changing needs while maintaining positive relationships with internal and external constituents
- Has the ability to manage multiple projects at once with varying timelines.
- High standards of professional ethics and conduct.
- Work effectively in a cross-functional, matrix organization.
- Demonstrated customer service, problem solving, time management, research, information management and other core organization skills.
- Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule and adjust it as required by changing activities. Ability to travel to work in a variety of locations throughout the Northern Utah service area.
- Proficient in Adobe Suite’s InDesign, Illustrator, Website platform Firespring, Constant Contact, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, Asana or like applications.
