The Volunteer Events Manager is responsible for the management and strategic direction of all volunteer event activities.  This position will work closely with internal teams to mobilize both corporate partners and individuals to increase participation through various types of meaningful, year-round volunteer opportunities; demonstrating a shared purpose in the caring power of community and deepening connections with UWSHR.  The primary purpose of this position is to create, coordinate, and manage corporate volunteer engagement.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Develop strategy to engage companies and individuals through targeted volunteer opportunities.
  • Engage, recruit, and manage relationships with community volunteers to ensure events execution and drive increased participation based on ROI (Chairman, Key & Donors).
  • Support UWSHR Special Events; including but not limited to Campaign Kick Off’s, Day of Caring and Day of Action.
  • Develop and manage group/corporate volunteer engagement strategies, including research of best practices, program planning and implementation, partner collaboration and the development of new types of corporate and donor partnerships.
  • Use database to create and track all group/corporate volunteers and capture, # of volunteers, hours, company name and service location.
  • Coordinate and engage volunteers for other United Way focused initiatives and special projects.
    • Affinity Groups: Women United, Young Philanthropists, African American Leadership Society
    • Volunteer Recognition: Corporate & Individual, National Volunteer Week; Governor’s Award for Volunteer Service
  • Develop and execute an annual engagement plan for donors and volunteers to provide touch points anchored in UWSHR’s community impact work.
  • Create annual volunteering and engagement calendars outlining anticipated engagement points based on the partner’s corporate social responsibility goals.
  • Utilize technology to identify necessary platforms to create a “world class” volunteer experience.
  • Oversee development and implementation of year-round volunteerism and maintain and grow relationships with other volunteer resources in Hampton Roads area to create collaborations around specific projects and/or promoting volunteerism.
  • Work across teams to ensure volunteer experiences are aligned with United Way Community priorities and collective impact/initiatives (United for Children, Mission United, Mobility Mentoring).
  • Manage select corporate accounts for the annual workplace campaign in support of the workplace campaign.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's Degree
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum 2 years experience in planning and implementing volunteer event opportunities.
  • Prior experience with database programs and volunteer engagement software.
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Must be organized and task oriented to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Analytical and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Ensure the disciplined use of CRM and Galaxy Digital by consistently maintaining high quality data entry.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Thorough knowledge of the skills required in planning, organizing and directing volunteers to meet objectives and planned timelines.
  • Use of excellent verbal and written communication and producing consistent error-free work.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service, follow through, and courtesy.
  • Demonstrate ability to work cross functionally as part of a team to accomplish individual and mutually defined goals within specified timeframes.
  • Prepare/process documents, forms, templates, and reports, including proofreading and editing.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evening or weekend hours.
  • Excellent written, verbal communication and interpersonal relationship skills.
