The City of Newburgh has received an AmeriCorps VISTA Program grant from the New York State Governor’s Office, through the Empire State Poverty Reduction Initiative (ESPRI). The active duties and responsibilities are aimed to further efforts to alleviate poverty and create sustainable pathways for residents to seek financial stability. Members will work closely with the Director of Anti-Poverty to manage the overall task force which includes: supporting working groups, organizing and supporting steering committee, note taking and meeting management; researching pilots to bring to working groups and steering committee; supporting data gathering and management of progress on focus areas yet to be determined by residents; engaging in community outreach with Newburgh residents; and other duties and responsibilities to be defined as the needs of the initiative develop.
- Work with United Way (UW) of Dutchess/Orange Region to implement Empire State Poverty Reduction Initiative (ESPRI)/Anti-Poverty Task Force structure and work in the city of Newburgh. Working with Director of Anti-Poverty Initiative, member will enhance efforts being organized by the UW with input from the Mayor of the City of Newburgh and County Executive of Orange County, NY to create sustainable pathways out of poverty for city of Newburgh residents.
- Assist with maintaining initiative structure, working with steering committee and working groups by supporting the development of meeting agendas, working steps, research and/or data gathering. Help with resident engagement including community outreach, convening of resident think tanks and other activities to hone participation.
Salary: Less than $20,000 per year
