The Manager, Strategic Initiatives reports to the Senior Director, Strategic Initiatives, and is primarily responsible for managing a portfolio of strategic corporate partnerships. Key Performance Indicators include:
- Develop annual and long-term corporate strategies and performance objectives for the portfolio
- Manage and deepen the relationships between UWNYC and all levels of client organizations
- Organize, train, and support United Way champions and other volunteers
- Grow the accounts to increase both corporate support and donor dollars
- Responsible for Young Leaders Council cultivation, memberships and for managing events
The successful candidate will be an experienced professional with demonstrated success in nonprofit development and/or sales account relationship management in the private sector. He or she must be comfortable and confident working with corporate client organizations and donors. He or she should be connected to United Way’s mission, and motivated to enhance one of the country’s best-known brands.
Strategic Leadership
- Collaborate with leadership to build high-level fundraising strategies in support of UWNYC’s programmatic products including specific corporate industry targets
- Set enrollment and fundraising goals
- Develop annual and long-term strategies for engaging specific partnerships within their portfolios
- Understand the organizational structure of corporations in their portfolio
- Identify and cultivate relationships with key decision makers
- Be responsible for messaging and communications within their portfolio’s corporate accounts
Stewardship of Corporate Relationships
- Deepening and broadening the relationships throughout their client organizations
- With the Individual Giving team, identify and cultivate potential leadership and Tocqueville donors and affinity group members
- Execute donor segment and affinity group strategies
Team Leadership
- Work well with writers and designers in Marketing and Communications to ensure the timely and professional delivery of appropriate messaging and materials
- Coordinate with peers responsible for event implementation and logistics
- Partner with the Senior Manager, Volunteerism to develop innovative engagement plans for each account in their portfolio
- Partner with the Senior Manager, Strategic Initiatives to maximize opportunities to obtain corporate and foundation support from the accounts they manage
- Partner with the Director, Individual Giving, to execute affinity group and other donor member programs within their accounts
Administration
- Oversee the proper administration of recognition, reporting and other donor acknowledgments and communications
- Oversee the processing of contributions
- Manage optimal utilization of the CRM and other database tools for tracking and communicating with donors in their accounts

- Other duties as assigned
- 3-5 years’ experience holding progressively responsible positions in nonprofit development, foundation giving, corporate philanthropy, or managing senior level business-to-business sales accounts
- Excellent writing, editing, verbal, presentation and public speaking skills
- Astute listener and able to understand, reflect, and incorporate what clients’ and peers’ needs and interests are
- Effective at engaging with top level corporate executives
- Deep understanding of the corporate landscape and next-generation workforce of New York City
- Adept at translating program partnerships and outcomes in order to communicate UWNYC’s value in the community and build a case for member support
- Innovative thinker, with a track record for translating strategic thinking into action plans and results
- Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills
- Presence and confidence to project credibility to donors and peers
- Ability to handle multiple projects and quickly “change gears” as needed
- Familiarity with database and CRM tools
