The Manager, Nutrition Programs, contributes to the development, implementation, and evaluation of nutrition, food safety and capacity initiatives for emergency food programs (EFPs). This position is primarily responsible for the nutrition programming for UWNYC’s local produce initiatives, which includes our farm to pantry program and connected client-based nutrition education efforts.  The manager conducts compliance site visit reviews to EFPs in all 5 boroughs, nutrition and food safety workshops, and develops educational and resource materials to ensure EFPs have the necessary nutrition and food safety related knowledge and skills. This position also provides general program support and assists the Senior Manager, Nutrition Programs, to ensure that nutrition resource program deliverables are met.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Manages the nutrition programming, including workshops, educational materials and pantry based technical assistance, for Local Produce Link, our farm to food pantry program for EFPs.
  • Manages the client focused nutrition education program for Local Produce Link by hiring, training, and providing oversight to consultant chef educators to conduct nutrition education onsite at food pantries.
  • Monitors EFPs for compliance with food distribution, reporting, and communication requirements and provide onsite technical assistance and training.
  • Develops and conducts nutrition education and food safety workshops for EFP staff at UWNYC and at community partner sites.
  • Writes and edits monthly nutrition and food safety newsletters.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Master’s Degree in Nutrition or Public Health from an accredited institution preferred
Skills/Experience: 
  • Registered Dietitian (RD) with a minimum of three years of experience in community/public nutrition OR non-RD with a minimum of five years of professional community nutrition experience.
  • Understanding of community nutrition issues, poverty and hunger issues, sustainable and local agriculture, and food systems and general health statistics as they relate to NYC.
  • Experience creating and implementing nutrition education at the community level.
  • Excellent organizational, project management, time-management, and negotiation skills with ability to collaborate with diverse groups of people.
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, driven, proactive, collaborative, flexible, and good-natured.
  • Strong presentation, public speaking and meeting facilitation skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook).
  • Experience with Adobe InDesign a plus.
