Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) seeks a dynamic and effective Content Development Specialist to join its growing Philanthropic Communications team in the Development division. Reporting to the Director of Philanthropic Communications, this position provides writing, editing, and design support for a fluid mix of donor-facing materials, primarily for the Principal and Major Gifts audience (donors capable of giving $25,000 or more annually).DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Working closely with the Director of Philanthropic Communications and the team’s Senior Graphic Designer and two writers, the Content Development Specialist will produce a high volume of print and electronic materials and will be responsible for an evolving mix of writing, editing, and design.
- One of the major streams of work for the Philanthropic Communications team is collateral for the cultivation and solicitation of individual donors, such as personalized presentation decks, program updates, and reports.
- Will assist in updating content and/or design for existing materials, implementing changes as new materials move through the review process, and taking the lead (in content, design, or both) for smaller one-off projects using existing design templates.
- Another significant area of work for the team is the creation of event collateral, as well as more evergreen materials for gift officers’ use with multiple donors.
- Help develop event invitations and follow-up, and assist in the build out of decks, posters, and collateral for events. For the evergreen resources, this individual will be responsible for regularly updating statistics in existing collateral, and creating new tools, such as one-pagers and palm cards.
- The final major area of focus involves keeping donors informed of breaking and important news for Planned Parenthood and our issues, through direct communications like e-blasts and appeals, and indirectly through communications support for gift officers.
- Draft e-blasts and appeals to provide additional support to the team’s writer who specializes in these communications.
- Provide general writing, editing, and design support, such as periodically updating acknowledgment letter templates, proofreading, and reviewing content of other Development teams (such as Direct Response and Planned Giving) for accuracy and consistency from both messaging and branding perspectives. In addition, this individual will provide research and asset management support for the team, by gathering specific content and imagery, and will help shepherd drafts through the review process.
- As needed, the ability and willingness to work long hours, including nights and weekends, is essential.
- 1-3 years of experience in communications or marketing and graphic design is required (preferably in the non-profit development sector or in the corporate sector).
- A bachelor’s degree in a related field is highly desired, such as communications, marketing, or visual communications.
- Excellent writing and editing skills and strong command of Adobe Creative Suite, Keynote, Microsoft Office programs, and Google platforms.
- A keen eye for both writing and design, and a deftness in fluidly navigating between them.
- Experience working within an established brand.
- Ability to comprehend and negotiate the ever-changing communications and graphic design needs of a complex, multifaceted organization with composure and confidence.
- A willingness and ability to determine, manage, and quickly adjust priorities and juggle multiple project simultaneously, demanding a high degree of multitasking and creativity.
- An ability to consistently meet deadlines under high pressure without sacrificing quality.
- An ability to interface productively with staff and senior leadership and effectively communicate the vision behind your products. Respond to multiple points of view and make final recommendations while maintaining collegial relations.
- A proven track record of compelling content copy and beautiful, clean, and inspiring print design.
- A motivated team player who can build partnerships across many teams and who possesses diplomacy, finesse, and intuition.
- A high attention to detail, with strong communications and proactive problem-solving skills.
- Past experience with a women’s health and rights organization is not required, but a passion for Planned Parenthood’s mission is a must.
- An interest and ability to remain current with rapidly changing design, production, and distribution technologies, and marketing and communication trends.
- A good sense of humor, tenacity, a positive attitude, and a commitment to customer service are essential.
