Summary:

• The Assistant Site Director is responsible for assisting in the overall operations of all phases of the program.  This position reports to the Site Director and assists in the development of long-range program planning and innovative changes to the program, providing input and suggestions as opportunities arise.  This position is responsible for ensuring best practices, supports based on the personal outcomes of the individual and/or family, compliance with all state, federal, and agency standards as required for assigned services.  This position has direct supervision of direct care para-professionals.

Basic Responsibilities:

• Represents program to parents, participants, potential staff, staff, stakeholders, etc. • Plans, implements, and supervises the safe and therapeutic recreation of the program including field trips, scheduled activities, and daily programming. • Hires, trains, coaches, disciplines and works to retain qualified staff for services within their assigned area.  • Assures compliance with position requirements, training and health requirements of staff. • Ensures staff are trained on safety and emergency procedures, as well as how to assess environmental safety.  • Assures maintenance of staff files.  • Responsible for ongoing supervision, including annual performance reviews, of direct care para-professionals. • Supports Site Director with management of program budgets by ensuring necessary authorizations are in place before supports begin or continue, ensuring that direct care para-professionals are working appropriately scheduled hours. • Coordinates the scheduling of Direct Care para-professionals providing supports.   • Anticipates staffing needs and responds to schedule changes, taking the appropriate action to avoid problems.   • Arranges for all program logistics and appropriate activity planning and implementation. • Responsible for assurance of oversight and routine administration of approved medications.  • Assists in the appropriate development of person centered plans and the implementation of these plans. • Promotes team and employee interaction and communication. • Assists in maintaining adequate records (financial and otherwise) on all programs. • Assists Site Director in overall management of program as needed. • Leads appropriate crisis response for any emergency, i.e. health or medically related, or an environmental emergency.  • Performs on-going evaluation of all programming, implementing corrective action as needed to improve operations considering participant needs/interests and with special regard to emerging rehabilitation or therapeutic philosophies as they apply to the program philosophy. • Assumes responsibilities of Site Director in their absence. • Must be able to drive for work purposes. • Follows and assures compliance with all Easterseals Policies and Procedures. • Must demonstrate Easterseals valued behaviors of Accountability, Commitment and Caring as appropriate to position. • Maintains regular attendance and punctuality, manages use of PTO time, and follows all policies and procedures regarding time off. • Ensures completion of required training within prescribed timeframes for self and staff. • Performs related duties as requested.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by an entity approved by USDOE or CHEA in therapeutic recreation (CTRS desirable), recreation, special education, adapted physical education or related field preferred. • Two (2) years of administrative or supervisory experience in an inclusive setting preferred. • Must have a valid, unrestricted, state appropriate driver’s license and personal vehicle insurance. • Satisfactory criminal background check and acceptable motor vehicle record. • Measurable knowledge, skills and experience in therapeutic programming and personal care assistance with populations of individuals with physical and/or cognitive disabilities. • Experience with personnel supervision, interpersonal relationships, discipline, training and leadership. • Experience in and ability to train staff in caretaking and counselor skills. • Ability to observe participant and staff behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures. • Ability to supervise and communicate effectively with staff members in order to achieve a beneficial and therapeutic program. • Ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to specific activities. • Ability to analyze and provide assistance in activity and personnel problem areas. Equipment Used:  Telephone; Computer; Calculator; Copier/Scanner/Fax; Postage Meter; Shredder; Camera;  Software: Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point);  Fleet and personal vehicles                                                      Essential physical requirements: • Must possess the visual acuity to develop written correspondence and determine accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned. • Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of talking, hearing, sitting for long periods of time and performing repetitive motions, such as using a computer. • Must be able to perform many physical tasks including lifting at least 50 lbs. • May spend time sitting on the floor or in child sized furniture.   • Must possess the physical ability to transfer individuals into and out of wheelchairs, push people in wheelchairs, and assist individuals with activities of daily living. • Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and have a valid, unrestricted driver’s license.
