FHI 360 is currently recruiting for the position of Grants Manager for an anticipated project, East Africa Building Resilience in Civil Society (BRICS) Phase II. BRICS II will implement a holistic approach to preventing Violent Extremism (VE) including working with national and subnational authorities to improve their ability to prevent VE, working with and in at-risk communities, conducting research to inform VE interventions and facilitate dialogues among stakeholders. It is anticipated that this program will focus primarily on Kenya, with a secondary focus on Tanzania and Mozambique and a third line of effort in Uganda and Ethiopia.
The Grants Manager will oversee a portfolio of grants to local organizations. Responsibilities will include working with program staff to establish a grants management system; developing grant solicitations; monitoring and reporting on grant activities; and providing technical assistance and training to grant recipients. The Grants Manager will report to the Project Director, will manage a small grants team, and will be based in Nairobi with periodic travel to Tanzania and Mozambique. The position is contingent on funding.
- Support the design and management of an open, transparent, and competitive grants program;
- Work closely with appropriate program personnel to develop solicitations approved by FHI 360 and the funding authority; publicize and promote the solicitations through various media channels: process and prepare all necessary documentation, in collaboration with project personnel; and follow-through and complete all approval processes;
- Ensure grants are entered and updated in the program tracking system;
- Supervise the implementation of all institutional grantees’ awards;
- Perform pre-award grantee activities, including draft management questionnaires and negotiation memos, develop accurate budgets and budget narratives, provide supporting documentation, as required;
- Maintain a successful grants tracking system to quickly and easily assess the status and performance of each grantee, including any implementation issues;
- Conduct, in collaboration with other staff, workshops, trainings, and/or provide hands-on technical assistance to grantees or potential grantees covering FHI 360 grants procedure and management and reporting requirements;
- Prepare grant modification packages;
- Serve as the point of contact for grantees; and
- Conduct site visits to observe grantee activities as required.
- With Bachelor’s degree, a minimum eight (8) years’ experience working in or with the non-governmental sector, especially in grant and financial management; with Master’s degree, five to seven years’ experience.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience with grants programs; design and management of peacebuilding, research, and preventing violent extremism grants programs preferred;
- Experience with accounting software strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with FCO CSSF, or DFID, programming, rules and regulations highly desired;
- Ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative team approach;
- Excellent communication and organizational skills; and
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
