The overall purpose of the Community Health Officer (CHO) is to support the implementation of activities intended to increase the availability of quality health services in the community. The officer will also provide assistance to Social and Behaviour Change Communication (SBCC) team, partners and community members including Community Malaria Case Management. The CHO will be directly responsible for the day-to-day management of the community health component of the project. Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Ensure timely and quality implementation of the community health component of the project.
  • Organize and facilitate workshops, community group meetings and other meetings at the community, district, and provincial levels.
  • Build strong relationships with the Ministry of Health and Child Care, community leaders and other stakeholders of the project in the field.
  • Assist with the designing and delivering of strategies for increasing the uptake of MNCH-FP services, quality Improvement, community engagement, intelligence gathering, and community resource mobilization.
  • Work with Social and Behaviour Change Communication team to support coordination of Social and Behavior Change Communication strategies (align and coordinate messages, coordination/collaboration between Village Health Workers and peer educators, etc.) and capacity building.
  • Lead implementation of strategies for improving access to MNCH services including My Village, My Home, VHW peer to peer support and Community Malaria Case Management
Educational Background: 
A Bachelors’ degree in Public Health, Nursing or Health Sciences and 3 years relevant experience
Skills/Experience: 
  • Knowledge of MNCH/FP health issues and services, especially community-based interventions
  • Approaches/principles of adult learning: on-job training and learning through practice, coaching/mentoring, peer-based mentoring/supervision, distance mentoring/supervision, gathering client/community feedback.
  • Data collection and information systems for community-based activities
  • Quality Improvement of health services, especially community-based activities
  • Supporting data collection/information systems for community-based activities
  • Community engagement, especially for: men, adolescents/youth, and apostolic sects
  • Monitoring, evaluation, learning, and research; basic qualitative and quantitative methods, with an emphasis on collaborative learning and using results for program improvement.
  • Experience in working with VHWs and Community Malaria Case Management
  • Or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience sufficient to successfully perform the key responsibilities of the job.
  • Exposure to health or Social Science development work in Zimbabwe, Manicaland communities is preferred
  • Experience as a community level health officer is preferred.
