The Vice President of Collective Impact and Strategic Initiatives supports the mission, goals, values, and philosophy of the United Way of Rutherford and Cannon Counties by exhibiting the following: commitment to excellence, efficiency and effectiveness, flexibility, diplomacy, and accountability. As a member of the United Way of Rutherford and Cannon Counties’ management team, the individual’s performance includes superior demonstration of the following professional attributes: ethical leadership, effective communication, teamwork, and job knowledge. The Vice President of Collective Impact and Strategic Initiatives is responsible for advancing the collective impact model and ensuring measurable impact through strategic initiatives and partnerships.

The Vice President of Collective Impact and Strategic Initiatives will be responsible for short and long-range goals and strategies that position United Way as a community solutions leader, specifically in the areas of education, health and financial stability. S/he will serve as a key thought leader on community issues, participating in community task forces and initiatives as appropriate, and using an evidence-based approach to drive transformational results.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Collective Impact:

  • With community partners, identify bold, quantifiable collective impact goals and strategies within priority issues
  • Mobilize multi-sector community organizations and subject matter experts (SMEs) to develop and implement collective impact partnerships and initiatives that drive change on priority issues in education, health, and financial stability
  • Develop and implement strategies within United Way initiatives to produce measurable outcomes that align with collective impact goals
  • Seek partnerships with nontraditional sectors and institutions to further United Way’s outreach and inclusion in regards to collective impact.
  • Collect, analyze, and use community and population-level data to influence best practices that improve community conditions in priority issues
  • Develop and maintain strategic partnerships and relationships that advance the impact agenda

Strategic Initiatives:

  • Develop, implement, and/or sustain key United Way initiatives and programs that impact the community
  • Ensure effectiveness and advancement of core initiatives, including but not limited to: Books from Birth program, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA), 2-1-1, FamilyWize, Charity Tracker, training and development opportunities for health and human service professionals
  • Ensure United Way programs and initiatives are funded through effective grant writing and management

Community Investment:

  • Manage United Way’s annual strategic grant program
  • Actively recruit, train, engage, and retain volunteer evaluators for the strategic grant program
  • Evaluate program partnerships to ensure United Way-funded programs and services are delivering measurable outcomes within priority issues
  • Serve as staff lead for the Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP) funding

Volunteer Collaboration:

  • Serve as staff lead for a board-level committee: the Community Impact Committee
  • Provide support to President and CEO on board-related collective impact and strategic initiatives activities

Other:

  • Primary duties and responsibilities are not all-inclusive, and employee will be asked to fulfill other duties as required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • One and a half staff positions: one full-time community impact staff person and one part-time grant writing and management staff person.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree business, social work, public administration, or related field

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s degree in a related field preferred
  • Seven to ten years of experience in business, public policy, strategic planning, community development, human services, or related field
