The Executive Director serves as the chief executive officer, appointed and employed by the Board of Directors. This person is responsible for the overall direction, management and effectiveness of the organization. The individual will provide strategic, collaborative and innovative leadership focusing on maximizing resource development and community impact and building awareness of United Way’s role in the community. As head of the organization, this leader must maintain accountability for the overall operational and fiscal integrity of the organization.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Recommend policies to the Board and/or assist the Board in formulation of policies for the effective and economical operation of the agency. Ensure implementation of policies adopted by the Board; chief administrative responsibility for public accountability of the agency; chief responsibility for compliance with all local, state and federal regulations.Assures the organization has a long-range strategy which achieves its mission, and toward which it makes consistent and timely progress.
  • Organize volunteer structure to carry out all fund-raising responsibilities including volunteer training, public relations and public speaking, special events, a lead resource throughout the campaign for volunteer coordination and success of the campaign.
  • Direct all financial operations of the agency including: processing of donations and pledges, sending statements, payments to vendors, preparing annual budget, preparation of relevant information for allocations.
  • Manage collection of Habitat homeowner payments, escrow accounting, and payments of taxes and insurance on homes.
  • Establish sound working relationships and cooperative arrangements with partner agencies, community groups, organizations, corporations and the community at large.
  • Promotes active and broad participation by volunteers in all areas of the organization’s work. Supports all current volunteer roles within the organization.
  • Publicizes the activities of the organization, develops and purchases marketing materials, annual report, and other campaign materials.
  • Manage the Emergency Food and Shelter board program. Serve as local board lead and administrator.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s Degree
Skills/Experience: 
  • 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience in either United Way or other non-profit organization; demonstrated competence in the areas of community problem solving, community leadership, fund raising and fund distribution, public and private sector grant management, and supervision of individuals and teams.

Other Requirements:

  • The scope of the position is broad, requiring significant relationships with persons at all levels within the public, private and voluntary sectors.  These persons include corporate CEOs, local government leadership, representatives of other United Way organizations (both local and national), and key planning organizations, and representatives of all United Way constituencies.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $51,000 to $60,000 per year
