Under the direct supervision of the Accounting Manager/Contract Manager, indirect supervision of the Chief Financial Officer, the Staff Accountant is responsible for coding and data entry of general office billing, rents, utilities, and routine reoccurring bills into accounting software. Will assist with maintenance of vendor filing system and will assist with grants purchase orders and travel/training arrangements, as requested.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Enter general office billing into A/P System to include rents, utilities, and other general accounts.
  • Assist with maintenance of vendor filing system and assist with set up of new vendors in accounting software.
  • Assist with grant allocation of expenses/payments processing and end-of-month records for monthly voucher processing.
  • Assist with the administration purchase orders, or as needed.
  • Contact vendors for invoice questions, W-9 requests and verifications, and follow-up, as needed.
  • Complete Tax Exempt forms as requested by vendors.
  • Assist with accounting department mail, typing, filing, faxing, copying and any other reports, analyses and duties as assigned.
  • Assist agency employees with their accounting needs in a reasonable, professional and courteous manner.
  • Assist billing department (using billing software) ---posting and reporting daily, end-of-month reporting, etc., as scheduled by Accounting/Contract Manager.
  • Assist with child development center weekly billing using daycare billing software.
  • Assist department with need for assistance in filing, and other duties assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s in Accounting or Finance; or equivalent certification.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Knowledge of general accounting functions through internships and one or more years experience in accounting field.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and proven demonstration of positive interpersonal skills in phone, electronic and face to face communication.
  • Computer knowledge to include word processing, Excel worksheets, light typing and filing skills. Knowledge of accounting software preferred.
  • Ability to work well with others and in a team environment.
