The Resource Development Manager will provide leadership and assistance in the achievement of the United Way of Richland County’s resource development goals.  The Development Manager will assist the Executive Director in 1) creating and executing the annual development plan; 2) provide leadership for special events and workplace campaigns; 3) provide assistance to donation drives; 4) assist with individual donor engagement; 5) provide general administrative support and oversite.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Maintain an in-depth knowledge of fundraising best practices and strategies, including research of peer and comparable local United Ways.
  • Monitor major changes in the local marketplace, both philanthropic and economic and provide strategic direction based on that information.
  • Work with Executive Director to develop, implement, and evaluate the yearly annual fund campaign.
  • Collaborate with Marketing staff personnel to identify and create targeted messaging and materials that highlight the various facets of outcomes United Way funding supports. Ensure the unique roles of United Way in the community are communicated and customized to the appropriate donor audience. These efforts must emphasizes a clear call to action.
  • Cultivate and manage ongoing relationships with current and prospective donors.
  • Facilitate workplace campaigns and related events from start to finish.
  • Provide ongoing and timely donor recognition and appreciation.
  • Plan, facilitate, and execute fundraising special events.
  • Train and manage volunteers to support annual campaigns.
  • Develop and maintain quality relationships with the Richland County community. 
  • Work with Administrative Assistant, in order assist in the maintenance and accuracy of the relationship database. 
  • Work with Administrative Assistant to coordinate materials needed for workplace campaigns.
  • Participate in community activities.  
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive annual event sponsorship plan and secure corporate commitments for same.
  • Completing other duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree, preferred in business, marketing, communications, or nonprofit management, or a strong measurable amount of commensurate experience in non-profit fundraising and/or sales experience.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Experience in sales management or fundraising experience.
  • Self-starter adept at multi-tasking.
  • Strong communication, listening and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate the mission and messages in a compelling manner in individual and group settings; confidence to assert, present perspective, engage others and influence outcomes.
  • A professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Ability to identify opportunities, relationships and partnerships for new/increased revenue generation; must be able to work collaboratively throughout the organization to successfully bring those opportunities to fruition.
  • Candidate must possess a positive, high-energy, can-do attitude.
  • Leadership experience.
  • Highly effective relationship building skills including one-on-one interpersonal networking; ability to leverage and communicate effectively with diverse audiences: executive leaders, board members, donors, constituents, and staff.
  • Experience in analyzing data.
  • Proficient computer skills with Microsoft Office programs.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, outside of the standard office hours of Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with the possibility of early morning, evening and weekend hours being needed.
  • Valid Ohio Driver’s License, proof of auto insurance coverage and daily access to a personal vehicle.
