Manage and develop corporate and individual relations for the Resource Development Department. Lead and motivate staff and volunteers to ensure all development functions related to revenue generation are timely, accurate and achieve the planned results. This position will oversee the Development Director aspects of Resource Development including: corporate and Individual relationship building, data management, reporting, analytics, and volunteer committee management. Strategic focus is to 'transform the Development Director roles, mechanisms and relationships to increase interest, raise resources and establish life-long relationships with current, past and future donors. This position will also manage a portfolio of corporate accounts that includes a leadership (concierge) account.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Management: 5%

  • Staff Management, administration and supervision of 4 Development Directors.
  • Manage and coordinate overall fundraising operations of the Annual Campaign, including private sector, public sector combined campaigns.
  • Manage and coordinate annual campaign goal-setting process.
  • Work with the Sr. Director of Development Operations on Loaned Executive Program including recruitment, placement among the Development Directors and monitoring and evaluation of the process and results.
  • Manage the distribution campaign reports and provide appropriate campaign information to staff and volunteers.
  • Ensure accurate and timely data entry across the department and Loaned Executive program.
  • Manage 2 to 3 Corporate accounts
  • Assist with development and management of Resource Development budget.  Provide recommendations relating to aspects of marketing budget that relate to Resource Development programs and projects.

Strategy: 20%

  • Develop and implement Development Director processes in both the public and private sectors to ensure campaign strategies are met.
  • Assist Development Directors with individual “affinity group” responsibilities including LINC, Women’s Leadership, Rosenberry and Key Club.  This includes goal settings within the corporate campaign sectors and divisions.  Also includes strategy for Leadership giving growth and retention within and across the affinity groups.
  • Working with Leadership Team to analyze prior campaigns and recommend strategies to increase the fundraising achievement of the annual campaign.
  •  Develop and implement strategies to assist department in achieving year-round engagement goals and peer-to-peer engagement strategies.

Volunteer Engagement: 15%

  • Working with Executive Vice President of Resource Development and the Sr. Director of Operation; staff and support Cabinet Leadership and Campaign Cabinet.
  • Assist Development Directors with volunteer recruitment and placement on Leadership Giving volunteer teams (LINC, Rosenberry, Women’s Leadership and Key Club).
  • Work with Sr. Director of Operations on volunteer training materials and resources.
  • Manage relationships with assigned accounts year-round.

Support of Overall Organization: Ongoing

  • As part of the management team, participate in program development and overall leadership of organization.
  • Participate in organizational activities as determined appropriate.
  • Represent United Way of Dane County in the community in a professional and effective manner.
  • Represent United Way in appropriate service clubs or organizations.
  • Make public presentations to employees of companies, community service organizations and as otherwise requested by the public.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s Degree or a combination of education and or/ relevant experiences.
Skills/Experience: 
  • At least three years of work and/or a combination of work and volunteer experience in development, operations, or public relations.
  • Data analysis and strategic planning experience.
  • Human resource management experience.
  • Effective verbal and written communication. 
  • Ability to motivate volunteers and staff; to work with people of diverse backgrounds. 
  • Strong ability to plan and organize with attention to detail. 
  • Ability to utilize computer hardware and software.
