Associate Director, Development

Working with the Director of Development, this position will be involved in the creation, execution and evaluation of a strategic fundraising plan while leading a dynamic team of development officers. This position requires a results-driven leader, with a proven track record of securing significant gifts, who is highly focused on growing and strengthening United Way’s relationships with donors, organizations. 

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Maintain and grow a multi-million dollar portfolio
  • Manage and lead an established, cohesive team in alignment with United Way’s culture, while maintaining positive communication 
  • Create and execute short and long-term strategies for each organization to realize substantial revenue growth 
  • Manage a portfolio of donor relationships; personally soliciting and closing gifts as well as cultivating and stewarding donors to maintain the donor’s involvement, interest and support
  • Collaborate with United Way’s leaders and team members on initiatives, projects, and strategies
  • Lead and facilitate the Sponsored Employee Program, including its promotion, recruitment of candidates, training, coaching, and evaluating
  • Assist in the recruitment and training of Campaign volunteers 
  • Implement, monitor and evaluate activities related to annual workplace fundraising campaigns
  • Work  with the Labour Programs and Services Coordinator to strengthen relationships and identify opportunities that will increase campaign revenue and engagement
  • Work with the data team to create and implement measurable systems for goal setting and the tracking and reporting of campaign revenue and donors 
  • Assist with the analysis of campaign and donor metrics to measure the effectiveness, ensure alignment with business plan goals, and provide recommendations to inform future planning
  • Acknowledge the importance of the contribution of others; share and celebrate success

  • Participate and help facilitate partnership planning sessions
  • Manage the administrative and office operations associated with the role 
  • Perform other duties as needed to ensure the safe and effective operations of the organization
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's Degree
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in fundraising, management and volunteer management
  • Post-secondary credentials in management, business or other relevant degree, or a comparable combination of education and experience
  • Proven track record of managing, leading and motivating teams and volunteers to achieve a common goal
  • Proven track record of soliciting, securing and stewarding significant gifts
  • Highly committed and focused on results and can effectively communicate goals and impact
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and donor database applications; adept social media user
  • Technologically agile, understands the importance technology plays in the organization’s success and is comfortable using existing, and learning new, platforms
  • Consistent experience at meeting/exceeding high-level fundraising performance metrics
  • Excellent communication, teamwork and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work respectfully and collaboratively with a variety of individuals
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage, foster and grow long-standing relationships
  • Thrives in high energy, busy environments while maintaining professionalism and sound judgement
  • Well organized approach to donor engagement, developing strong partnerships with volunteers
  • Strong project management and time management skills
  • Stays current on the trends influencing the success of the nonprofit sector 
  • Demonstrates initiative and flexibility
  • Ability to flex work schedule to attend meetings and special events, which occur before or after regular office hours
  • Demonstrated record of dependability and reliability 
  • Contributes to a positive, forward thinking work environment
  • Must be in possession of a valid Ontario driver’s license and access to a motor vehicle
