The Mission United VISTA will help build and enhance United Way of Lake and Sumter Counties’ efforts to increase the number of economically disadvantaged veterans with improved financial knowledge and placed in jobs by evaluating the effectiveness of programs that help veterans living in poverty obtain employment and improve their financial education and management skills and then recommending and promoting implementation of strategies that leverage volunteers to strengthen and those programs. Promotion strategies include (but are not limited to) producing online guides, hosting webinars, building toolkits, organizing conference calls, and establishing MOU’s with community partners. The VISTA Member will also plan, execute, and increase engagement in episodic and signature volunteer events that create a greater awareness in the community about the struggles of people living in poverty and how individuals can help address those challenges through service and philanthropy.
