The director of community impact provides leadership in planning, aligning and implementing strategies aimed at improving community outcomes and increasing effectiveness of community investments. The director supports collective impact partners and leads the development of the Literacy Lebanon Initiative.  The director ensures coordination and alignment of communications and fund-raising staff.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Community Impact

  • Manage and implement United Way’s strategic investment portfolio including proposal review, online application portal, and recruiting/leading volunteers
  • Maintain and deepen relationships with community stakeholders to advance strategic initiatives approved by the United Way board of directors
  • Improve and build-up systems to track and measure program effectiveness and work towards community goals
  • Convene stakeholders and lead in the development of the Literacy Lebanon Initiative
  • Analyze data, narratives and develop ‘dashboard’ information and relevant stories and illustrations of Community Impact deliverables

Community Development

  • Lead communications and development staff, ensuring alignment with community goals
  • Develop and oversee a grant revenue strategy, including prospecting grants, responding to notices of grant opportunities, submitting applications, and cultivating relationships with likely funders
  • Represent United Way in the community – serve on internal/external committees, including regional advisory boards (i.e. PA State 2-1-1, Better Together, etc.) and provide educational opportunities to diverse stakeholders
  • Create an infrastructure to track and support public policy and initiatives that impact UW’s mission and strategy

Program Development & Implementation

  • Lead and support community programs, including 2-1-1, First Grade Success, Spring into Reading, Play 60
  • Develop and deliver training and information sessions for program partners, volunteers and community stakeholders
  • Establish a system to gather program outcomes and performance data; aggregate and synthesis the data; and, assist in disseminating, reporting and marketing community impact results
Educational Background: 
Graduate level degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Expert level communication skills including writing and public speaking; experience in research and planning; strong analytical, management, facilitation skills; ability to lead and convene community groups; knowledge of objectives, principles, practices and trends in human service agencies, systems, funding and operations; understanding of program performance measurement techniques, performance metrics, and evaluation principles.
  • Ability to establish and maintain significant relationships with persons at all levels within the community; and, a strong collaborator and influencer who embraces change and can lead teams in a dynamic environment. 
  • Three-five years nonprofit/health/education/human service experience or related field required; grant development and management experience required; minimum three years of supervisory experience preferred; knowledge of program evaluation methodologies and outcome measurement preferred; experience with volunteer boards and committees preferred; and,
