As a critical member of the senior leadership team, the Vice President of Development helps set the direction, ensure the financial health, and maintain strong operational performance of the organization.  The individual is expected to be a leader with a demonstrated history of fundraising, a track record of leading teams and a proven ability to manage a dynamic organization.  The incumbent will help to set and manage appropriate expectations, translate broad goals into achievable steps, handle detailed, complex concepts and problems and make sound decisions regarding management and development issues. 

In addition, the incumbent will be responsible for planning, developing and leading United Way’s comprehensive annual fundraising campaign involving corporations, foundations and individuals; coaching, developing, mentoring and motivating a high functioning fundraising team to achieve aggressive revenue growth and enduring trusting relationships in the community; leading a team to hit defined revenue targets for corporate gifts, employee workplace campaigns, individual gifts, online giving, major gifts, and legacy endowment gifts; creating and embodying a team culture of accountability that is goal focused, competitive, driven, and fun; and representing the brand of United Way in a professional and respectful way.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Working closely with the CEO, senior leadership team and the Board, create, implement and monitor strategies to achieve revenue growth in all targeted channels.
  • Serve as an effective leader to the organization in the areas of development, administration, fundraising and impact.
  • Lead and inspire paid staff and volunteers to successfully execute against revenue and operational goals of the organization.
  • Develop, monitor and direct the Annual Giving Campaign working closely with IT and Finance teams to report against it and refine as necessary.
  • Analyze data and develop key strategies to increase corporate, employee, and major gift giving results as well as deepen the engagement of donors in the work of United Way.
  • Provide leadership, mentoring and strategic direction to the fundraising team including actively monitoring and reporting of staff performance against objectives.
  • Establish, nurture and strengthen relationships with key community, nonprofit, corporate and public leaders.
  • Guide the planning and execution of special events and year-round campaign/education activities.
  • Operate as a leader and key spokesperson for the organization, effectively advocating for the importance of UWSN, motivating and mobilizing a wide spectrum of donors and stakeholders to support the organizational mission.
  • Leverage and lead technology initiatives to enhance fundraising results and donor satisfaction that improve the organization’s use of systems to increase overall impact. 
  • Evaluate staff performance and use effective leadership, team-building and motivational strategies to continually improve departmental performance and drive results.
  • Provide on-going leadership, training, coaching, direction and supervision for fundraising staff including the delegation and review of work assignments.  Develop and implement growth plan for staff to obtain appropriate training and education.

  • Advanced working knowledge of corporate philanthropy, volunteerism and management.
  • In-depth knowledge of assessing, aligning and linking prospects and donors with business objectives; expertise in envisioning new approaches and opportunities through creative targeting, analysis and business development.
  • Excellent relationship cultivation skills at all levels including employees, CEO-level board members, volunteers, donors, officers, stakeholders, etc., with the skills to support and coordinate the efforts of others.

  • A professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Valid Nevada Driver’s License, proof of auto insurance coverage and daily access to a personal vehicle.  Ability to travel to work in a variety of locations throughout Southern Nevada and other parts of the State, as needed.
