Save the Children is a recognized leader in protecting children in emergencies in the U.S. and ensuring children and their families have the resources they need to recover. Under the guidance of the Senior Specialist for Child Protection in Emergencies, the Senior Coordinator for Save the Children U.S. Emergencies, U.S. Border Response will support Save the Children in identifying, strengthening and maintaining positive collaborative relationships with U.S. Border Response partners and assistance with other tasks as they arise. Save the Children is currently working in New Mexico and Southwest Texas with support that includes conducting partner-led Community Play Spaces; training to strengthen partner’s capacity to protect and safeguard children and families; and meeting needs and gaps in services with targeted technical assistance, supplies and resources.

As a frontline representative of Save the Children, the position holder is required to ensure safety and protection of children and families with whom they come in contact, and represent the agency values of Accountability, Ambition, Collaboration, Creativity, and Integrity.

Areas of Responsibility: 

FACILITATE PARTNER COORDINATION & COMMUNICATION: (50%)

In partnership Save the Children Sr. Specialist,

  • Liaise, monitor and strengthen existing partnerships.
  • Help identify new opportunities / areas of support for responding partners including targeted technical assistance, goods and resources.
  • Provide ongoing assessment of the needs of beneficiaries and local border communities.
  • Establish regular partner check-ins.
  • Attend and represent Save the Children at local coalition and key stakeholder meetings documenting content and next steps.

HELP ESTABLISH AND FACILITATE WORKING GROUP (25%)

  • Help to identify local child focused partners and hosting entity to establish and convene a Children’s Working Group
  • Support lead organizations in communications and planning the convening of meetings to ensure successful implementation
  • Help represent Save the Children at working group meetings

SUPPORT PROGRAM PLANNING & IMPLEMENTATION (25%)

Assess and support program planning

  • Support partners to provide safe and supportive services for children and families with targeted technical assistance, goods and resources.
  • Support development of program and partner plans including training, program quality monitoring, and package of assistance needed to safely enhance services for children and families.
  • Ensure that children’s views and feedback are incorporated.  

CHILD SAFEGUARDING, INCLUSIVITY, MONITORING (throughout)

  • Ensure that all staff and volunteers working in any Save the Children program uphold Save the Children’s Child Safeguarding Policy and procedures as well as principles of do no harm and confidentiality.  
  • Work with partners to design activities and spaces that ensure that children feel comfortable, safe, and respected.
  • Identify needs and support in providing technical assistance to partners in promoting inclusivity through ensuring that all children are able to participate equally in activities, and that activities meet the needs of boys, girls, children with disabilities and other vulnerable groups.
  • Support timely collection of program data.
  • Support in writing reports and updates
Educational Background: 
High School diploma or equivalent required
Bachelor’s degree is desirable
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum 3-4 years' applicable experience
  • Advanced Spanish language skills
  • Clear thinker who remains calm and focused when working under pressure
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Flexible team player
  • Highly developed relationship building, influencing, negotiating and interpersonal skills.
  • Adaptable working style; effective when working in situations that may appear ambiguous.
  • Experience working with multi-cultural teams
  • Strong administrative skills
  • Strong command of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

Desirable:

  • Experience as a champion and advocate of good Child Safeguarding and Anti-Harassment practice.
  • Non-profit experience
