Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is currently seeking a dedicated professional to serve as a Regional Veteran Engagement Specialist with our Veterans Build team. The Regional Veteran Engagement Specialist is responsible for developing the capacity of Michigan-based affiliates to serve the needs of the state's veteran community, and for training other state organizations in a like manner. Working in coordination with the Michigan State Support Organization (MI-SSO), the Specialist will be responsible for identifying and developing partnerships with veteran organizations, state and local government entities, and other non-profits to strengthen relationships that will enable Habitat to better serve veterans. Reporting to the Director - Veterans Build, the Specialist is also responsible for developing training tools that serve Habitat’s affiliated organizations in their outreach to and service with the veteran community.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Map resources and analyze current affordable housing context for veterans
  • Develop close working relationship with the Habitat affiliates, understanding the context in which each is working, program goals and strategies that can be leveraged to better serve veterans
  • Identify/develop close working relationships with organizations that strengthen Habitat’s work in the veteran community
  • Identify/promote and/or facilitate regular meetings with veterans organizations and support groups
  • Create efficient system with Habitat affiliates to track and measure progress
  • Develop relationships with other social agencies that can expand/support Habitat’s work with veterans
  • Represent Habitat in the veteran community in partnership with other organizations that are promoting home ownership
Educational Background: 
Bachelors Degree or equivalent education and experience
Skills/Experience: 
  • 4 years of experience with veterans organizations or military experience
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering training
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft software, internet and basic office equipment
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a positive attitude
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to multi-task
  • Ability to analyze data in service of strategic planning preferred
  • 3-5 years of experience in a program coordination position preferred
  • Critical analytical skills, especially in situations where the issues are not fully defined preferred
