The Program Manager of Health Education will advance Orange County United Way’s (OCUW) FACE 2024 ten year goals in Health and Education. This position is primarily responsible for the planning, development and overseeing the successful implementation of United Way’s health education programs/initiatives that supports the Health Goal to decrease the rate of childhood obesity.
The incumbent will manage the implementation of key health education efforts and initiatives, including our Healthy Schools Initiative (HSI). The Program Manager of Health Education will serve as the primary contact person to help oversee and coordinate critical activities for the advancement and expansion of the HSI. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in community organizing, program development using evidence-based practices, and good leadership ability to facilitate the Healthy Schools Advisory Committee.
- Develop selection criteria and process for future participating HSI schools and hydration station locations.
- Convene/facilitate Healthy Schools Advisory Committee meetings that are comprised of community partners tasked with identifying opportunities for program expansion and program guidance to minimize duplication of efforts.
- Manage program implementation to achieve benchmarks by working with school-site wellness councils and grantee partners to set goals, implement accountability systems (i.e. evaluations, scope of work, and work plan).
- Build strategic alliances to achieve organizational and community goals, as well as to identify collaborative opportunities.
- Ensure school/district wellness committees and key stakeholders are engaged and active.
- Work closely with the Senior Director of Education and Healthy Schools and the Associate Director of Grants and Evaluation to develop S.M.A.R.T objectives, evaluation plan and grantee scope of work.
- Work cross functionally with other departments to develop and achieve shared goals/objectives (i.e. fund development, grant-writing, marketing/communications, etc.)
- Be a part of the Education & Healthy Schools Team and work together to coordinate opportunities for joint outreach efforts to promote all activities in Education and Healthy Schools.
- Maintain copies of all invoices and payments to provide audit trail expenses related to the Healthy Schools Initiative, including but not limited to Hydration Stations.
- Other duties assigned and deemed appropriate by the Senior Director of Education and Healthy Schools.
- Must have a background and/or working knowledge in the collective impact model/approach, program planning using evidence-based frameworks, program management, and program evaluation.
- Must have strong/proven community organizing abilities
- Experience working with school districts and school site wellness councils preferred
