Indiana United Ways (IUW) is a statewide organization with a staff of 25 that helps local United Ways thrive during a time of unprecedented transformation. Under the guidance of the Senior Director of Organizational Development and with the expectation of working cross-functionally with other staff, this position assists in assessing and prioritizing the development, coaching, training, and technical assistance, and change management needs of local United Ways, as well as generating and executing on development and change plans.  Success in this position entails building trust and relationships with local United Way CEOs, Boards, and staff in order to help those individuals see the benefits, challenges, and action steps associated with modernizing their organization; the ability to identify and leverage staff expertise to work cross-functionally. 

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Assess strengths and needs of United Ways to develop organizational development and change management strategies. Work collaboratively with local United Ways to develop and implement plans to ensure the organizations are nimble, durable, relevant to their communities, and following best practices, including emerging principles for “the modern United Way.” Deliver training, coaching, and technical assistance as needed.  
  • Provide training and targeted organizational development and change management services to United Ways. Support United Ways as they explore and/or implement plans to build capacity, including those exploring mergers. Develop and deliver services that help United Ways operate effectively in the United Way business model.   
  • Work cross-functionally within the IUW team to respond to member needs, support internal organizational development and change management, and support the implementation of the IUW Strategic Plan. Provide support to internal teams. Communicate well with colleagues, members, and external partners. Monitor and report progress. Contribute as an emerging leader to a high-functioning team and positive work environment.   
Educational Background: 
BA/BS required in Organizational and Leadership Development, Change Management, or related field or equivalent experience; Master’s degree is encouraged.  
Skills/Experience: 
  • Collaborative and network-minded with the ability to deliver quality customer experiences to United Way staff, board members, and external partners. 
  • Positive team builder who invests in others. Proactive communicator with self-awareness. Commitment to building strong relationships. 
  • Comfortable with technology and open to learning new technologies.  
  • Working knowledge of fundraising, marketing, and project management best practices. 

Experience 

  • Moderate experience with Microsoft Office Suite required.  
  • Experience in developing and instituting organizational development and change management plans is required. 
  • Experience with the United Way network strongly encouraged.
  • Experience with nonprofit consulting/training (3 years minimum) or equivalent is strongly encouraged. 
  • Experience using CRM encouraged. 

COMPLEXITY:   

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and high degree of confidentiality.  
  • Needs to exercise judgment regarding accurate setting of appointments, forwarding phone calls, interrupting meetings. 
  • Moderate level of decision making and creativity skills. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

  • Moderate level of mental and/or visual fatigue and/or eyestrain may result from looking at a computer screen for extended periods of time and moderate office noise level. 
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear.  
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. 
  • Moderate level of stress caused from tight deadlines.  
  • Occasional work outside of normal business hours. 
  • This position is located in Indianapolis, IN, with expectation for moderate to occasionally extensive statewide travel. Out of state travel may also be required to a lesser extent. 
  • Access to own transportation, and valid driver's license are required.
