Development Specialist-Heart Walk

We have an excellent opportunity for a Development Specialist-Heart Walk in our Houston, TX office. The Development Specialist provides support for the Heart Walk team by providing on-going project management, auxiliary fundraising events and maintaining complex databases. Other responsibilities include managing, motivating, and working with volunteers, while collaborating with AHA staff.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Serve as internal point person alongside the Vice President to manage all logistics for Heart Walk, events leading up to the Heart Walk and day to day administrative tasks. This includes Leadership Breakfast, VIP Breakfast, Thank You Celebration, Heart Walk Kick Off and other events pertaining to the Houston Heart Walk. Proactively provides event support for priority revenue generation and health improvement activities. Plan event ’ s logistics (i.e.: securing venue, reviewing vendor contracts and proof of insurance, van/truck rentals).
  • Provide administrative support through scheduling meetings, organizing mailings, daily report generation, and managing expenses. Attend ELT meetings, all internal meeting pertaining to Heart Walk and record minutes as needed. Arrange for meeting space, room set-up, meals, equipment, etc.
  • Organize and create AHA account team contacts, sponsorship contacts, proposals, letters of agreement, sponsorship payments, presentations, and benefits delivered.
  • Effectively manages and completes projects in an accurate manner within established timelines.
  • Manage the budget
  • Maintain all revenue reports
  • Perform donor/fundraiser data entry and generate donor/fundraiser reports (Dynamics & Luminate).
  • Manage annual Email Campaign for Heart Walk. Maintain external Heart Walk websites as appropriate.
  • Manage post-event feedback.
  • Support fundraising Directors with day to day administrative tasks.
  • Position will require periodic travel throughout the designated local markets.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university preferred. College coursework combined with related experience may be substituted for a degree.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Related experience may be substituted as follows: 1 ½ years ’ experience equates to 1 full time year of higher education.
  • 1+ years of experience in a similar role. This experience may also count towards satisfying this position’s educational requirement.
  • Able to lift at least 20 lbs. from the ground to waist level with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of complex meeting management.
  • Excellent verbal and written business communications skills.
  • Ability to anticipate and satisfy customer needs; to work independently and take initiative; to creatively and effectively solve problems; to meet and interact with all levels of AHA staff and volunteers.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, knowledge database programs a plus.
  • Ability to work evenings/weekends when necessary with reliable transportation.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Non-smoking environment.
