As the national leader in child-focused disaster preparedness, response and recovery, Save the Children is uniquely positioned to address the needs of children who have been affected by Hurricane Harvey. We have created an initial 24-month response and recovery strategy to support child-care and early-education service restoration, and to provide child protection programs and psychosocial support to help thousands of children and their adult caregivers cope with the losses, stresses and fears related to this emergency.
The primary purpose of the Manager, Resource Development is to raise private and public funds in support of Save the Children’s long-term Harvey response. S/he will work from Save the Children’s Houston field office and travel throughout the state of Texas to meet with donors and prospects.
The Manager, Resource Development will report to the Director, Resource Development (based in Fairfield, CT) and will work in close collaboration with other members of the Hurricane Harvey response team based in Houston, TX. Strong cross functional teamwork is required across multiple sections of Save the Children: Resource Development, Finance, USPA, etc.
Generate New Funds (40%)
- Under the direction of the Director, Resource Development, develop strategies for seeking new private support (individuals, corporations and private foundations) for Save the Children’s long-term Harvey response.
- Maintain close working relationships with Save the Children’s Resource Development teams (Individual Philanthropy Group, Corporate Partnerships and Strategic Foundation Partnerships, collectively the “Resource Development team”) to maximize resources and fundraising opportunities for Save the Children’s long-term Harvey response.
- In collaboration with the Resource Development team, identify high-level potential prospects (6 and 7-figure giving capacity), secure meetings and write concept papers and proposals in response to funding opportunities.
- Work with the Harvey response field team to set revenue targets based on the current recovery strategy for donor solicitations and track progress of solicitations.
Donor Stewardship (30%)
- Develop and implement stewardship plans for all donors and grants who come under management.
- Responsible for fulfilling all donor requirements including (but not limited to): financial and narrative reporting, ongoing communications, facilitating field visits, etc.
- Responsible for establishing trust with his or her donors, defining and upholding mutual expectations.
Public Fundraising Support (20%)
- Work in partnership with USPA’s public fundraising team to research, identify and qualify funding opportunities from local and state sources.
- Provide assistance with government grant application materials.
Cross Divisional, Cross Agency Efforts (10%)
- Act as a liaison with other areas of Resource Development, finance, donor services and USPA to share information about our long-term Harvey response and fundraising efforts in Texas.
- Minimum of 3-5 years progressively responsible professional fundraising experience, ideally at international or national NGO.
- Must show demonstrated strategic ability to meet goals; develop relationships in a positive trajectory and generate revenue (6 and 7 figure gifts).
- Familiarity with philanthropic and business communities in Texas.
- Exceptional customer-service and interpersonal skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; must have prior grant writing experience.
- Highly organized and detail oriented.
- Ability to work productively and proactively, both independently and within a cross-functional team environment.
