The Director of Strategic Engagement & Community Impact is a key member of the UWGAC leadership team and provides oversight of the coordination of all United Way community impact activities and initiatives. This position cultivates community awareness and collaborative opportunities for the building of relationships with businesses, nonprofits, government, and educational entities; serves as the Community Impact resource to the President/CEO, and staff while serving as the impact initiatives creative force for the organization as a whole. This position promotes the image and mission in a positive way while performing job tasks and helps to maintain a team-oriented climate that attracts, keeps, inspires, and motivates quality staff and volunteers and secures the trust and confidence of the Board of Directors.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Develop and implement a Collective Impact Agenda focused on early childhood development and education
  • Work with UWGAC team on community impact projects and special programs within UWGAC (i.e., VITA, Stuff the Bus, etc.)
  • Work with UWGAC team on development of annual fundraising strategy that includes, local and national prospects, timelines, pivotal cultivation events/dates & strategy, quarterly fundraising committee meetings
  • Develop and implement systematic year-round public information initiatives that build upon the United Way impact goals, while adhering to brand identity; creating awareness in Greenwood and Abbeville (and counties UWGAC serves) of the role of the United Way.
  • Align resource development and community impact through year-round relationship cultivation with donors, foundations, corporations.
  • Cultivate and foster stakeholder relationships to build collaboration among partners and agencies
  • Cultivate and foster relationships with local elected officials and government agencies to identify ways to work together on UWGAC programs and initiatives
  • Conduct on-going research to identify funding sources for United Way programming and grant initiatives that support the Collective Impact Agenda
  • Maintains a supportive and effective internal team culture
  • Develop in-depth working knowledge of Donation Tracker and produce active strategies for fundraising volunteers to make connections to desired community leaders who can support United Way priorities
  • Work closely with finance department to ensure grant agreements, acknowledgements, auditing, and payments in a time-efficient manner.
  • Maintain accurate weekly fundraising reports that reflect dollars in, pending and projected
  • Report and maintain ongoing communications to President & CEO and appropriate committee(s)
  • Lead Ad-Hoc Projects as required
Educational Background: 
Well-qualified candidates should possess a Master’s degree or a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in nonprofit management or public policy/ public health, or business. Experience in early learning environment a plus
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of 3 years professional fundraising experience is required in a large nonprofit organization
  • Demonstrated success in development function (managing and forging relationships with multiple donor sources).
  • Tangible experience of having expanded and cultivated existing donor relationships over time
  • Superior communication, organizational, interpersonal, and strategic skills
  • Familiarity with National philanthropic community and high net worth individuals a plus
  • Persuasive writing, strong verbal communication and the ability to interact at the executive level are other key qualifications
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Ability to fulfill responsibilities with minimal supervision and work successfully on a team
  • Experience working with diverse populations; knowledge of guidelines to successfully work in a culturally sensitive environment
  • Experience with community building and working in collaborative partnerships with other organizations, agencies, institutions, and entities
  • Experience working with corporations to achieve community impact
  • Demonstrated supervisory, leadership, coaching, and mentoring skills
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task
  • Demonstrated ability to support/lead collaborative projects - both with internal staff and community based coalitions
  • Grant writing and fund development experience for public or nonprofit agencies
  • Excellent proficiency in operating computers and various Windows-based software applications (MS Word, Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, PowerPoint)
